The collage below is of the town of Payo, Thailand. Incredible place.

Two nightspots dedicated strictly to live jazz--and, man, these guys cook. Just babes galore. Payo is like a Shangri-la (or, as "Axle" over at LibertyForum called it, the Gateway to Hell...whichever).

Looks like fun. That girl in the red shirt (fourth column of photos) is cute.

Is pot legal in Thailand? I haven't smoked it since I was a teenager (and won't start again), but I'm just curious because of the sign there.

Marijuana is not legal in Thailand...but it might as well be. If you're carrying around a joint or a tiny bag of ganj, all a cop's gonna ask you to do is toss it away (or give it to him: the corruption of Thai police officers is unreal). They don't want to deny foreign tourism $jack$ over personal use of pot. (Ah, hemp, tho., is legal as an agricultural/textile commodity--as it should be everywhere.)

The fascist Prime Minister Thaksin has cracked down big-time on "illegal" drugs, and it's not as cool a place as it once was--even six years ago. For no-holds-barred Drug Activity, Cambodia is ze place. Laos is very liberal with ganja use, and old women sell opium (sticky blocks of it, at about $10 a smallish block...could keep one very twisted for a couple days) pretty indiscretely and largely w/o hassle. First time I ever smoked opium was last year in Luang Prabang, Laos; heard to go to the night market and scan around for old women. Bingo.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge wrote his famous poem "Kubla Khan" on opium. & he was right. Almost too good.

I don't give a rat's ass what any Government says about putting a chemical into my corpus. Tobacco and alcohol are legal almost everywhere on the planet (some Arabic nations, and, for cigarettes, illegal in Bhutan, near China): So f*ck 'em.
