Half-price Colombian fighters offered for Iraq

A US company operating out of Ecuador says it has signed up about 1,000 Colombian police and military staff to work as hired guns in Iraq, for less than half of their US counterparts' salaries.

Colombians "have been fighting terrorists for the past 41 years and are experts in their respective areas" such as explosives and guerrilla warfare, Epi Security and Investigation says on its website, iraqijobcenter.com.

The company based in the Ecuadoran city of Manta is run by American Jeffrey Shippy, who is in Baghdad, according to his Ecuadoran wife.

He works out of his home not far from the Manta air base Washington rented from the Ecuadoran Air Force to relocate some of the troops and planes it used to have in Panama.

The Colombian daily El Tiempo reported Friday that the Colombians would be paid $US2,500 to $US5,000 a month, roughly half what their US and British counterparts earn.

The Roman empire was lost when mercenaries started fighting for them.

This is a subject that I have seen only a couple of times in the American news but we do have mercenaries form different countries fighting for the US in Iraq and elsewhere.

We are now training those who will train the illegals who will fight against Americans in the future, am I silly? time will tell but remember that I have lived among them and know the language.

And in a month or two's time, those Colombian mercs will demand "equal rights" as far as pay goes.

Colombia is the most corrupted place on earth. Anyone and everyone can be bought off there and you'll never know who's double-crossing you. Not a trustworthy bunch to employ as mercernaries.

I can't be certain but first named Jeffrey, last named "Shippy" with the Indian wife almost convinces me that someone did a name change from Shipstein to Shippy.

Ponce is right on with the statement that the Roman Empire employed too many mercenaries in the Roman Army and subsequently collapsed. Ah well, I guess American politicians aren't too well schooled in history....since they're repeating every mistake made by dozens of nations in the past with their current disastrous and criminal invasion and occupation of Iraq.
