ATLANTA (AP) -- A 78-year-old woman was indicted Tuesday on charges she shot her 85-year-old ex-beau to death as he read the newspaper in a senior citizens home.

Lena Sims Driskell was charged with murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Herman Winslow was slain June 10.

Police said Driskell was angry that her yearlong romance with Winslow had ended and he was seeing another woman. She allegedly shot Winslow four times with an antique handgun at the Hightower Manor retirement home in southwest Atlanta, where the two lived.

''I did it and I'd do it again!'' she allegedly told officers.

The woman's attorney, Deborah Poole, said her client was released on bail Thursday and is staying with her granddaughter. Poole said her client is ''very ill,'' but would not elaborate on her specific medical condition.

He was lucky. If he hadn't been killed, he might've been charged with Assault with a Dead Weapon.

What a load of bull shit. She's basically confessed to officers, and she's allowed to go stay with family? What would happen to you or I if we blew away our girlfriend?

Get her in the stocks. And ready the chair for this murderer. Just b/c you're 78, doesn't mean the death penalty isn't just desserts for murder.

I have a friend with an elderly mother (aged 92) who not long ago ran down a young mother and her little boy in a crosswalk in a supermarket parking lot. The young mother died, the little boy was okay.

There's no way in hell she should have been driving. She could barely see or hear, and her coordination was bad. What the hell was her family thinking? In fact, what in the hell was the state thinking by letting somebody that old just keep their DL without proving fitness?

They let her out on bail. Charges were pressed and ultimately dropped, or maybe reduced, I don't recall. Anyway, she did no jail time.

I figured that was the case, with the locale being SW Atlanta.

Reminds me of the old joke: I want to die at age 85 by being shot by a jealous husband.

A 78 year old and an 85 year old black couple still insane with jealously, rage, lust, obssessive/compulsive behavior, and co-dependency, etc.

I'm not sure if that's good or bad but I'm not surprised at all by this story.

Oh, man. The race angle just breezed right by me.

I was too into the idea of being 85 and having two chicks (or even hens) fighting to the death over me!
