Angry Parents Say Son Beaten Over Rebel Flag

A Franklin County family is outraged after their nineteen year old son is beaten unconscious. NewsChannel9 caught up with the family Sunday at Erlanger where he was treated. The parents of 19-year old, Shawn Sells say, he called home Friday night to let them know he was on his way to pick up a movie and go to his girlfriends. But he never made it. Mother, Melissa Sells says, ââ¬ÅAbout fifteen minutes later he called and asked me what day of the month it was and he didn't know that day of the month it was. He didn't know what was going on. He knew something had happened to him but he didn't know what.ââ¬Â The events that happened in those fifteen minutes are foggy to Shawn and to his family. They believe he stopped for a moment near a dollar store to check the brakes on his truck. The say, as best Shawn can tell them, five boys cornered him in his truck and then beat him. When Shawn came to, he went to a nearby family friends house and called home. His mother adds, ââ¬ÅHe was bleeding. His face was all swollen and we loaded him up in the vehicle and took him to a hospital.ââ¬Â Melissa and her husband Shirley believe the reason for the attack is a rebel flag. They say during the annual fourth of July parade, Shawn displayed a large rebel flag in the back of his truck. Shawn's parents add, after all, the local high school mascot is the rebel, and they say it's not an uncommon sight in the community. They tell NewsChannel9 after that parade, Shawn started having problems with this group of teenagers. Dad, Shirley says, ââ¬ÅHe just likes the looks of it. He's got shirts with it. He don't even know anyone resents it and apparently these boys do and I don't even know them. I've never seen them..but that's the reason they jumped him I suppose. He's in pretty bad shape.ââ¬Â Shawn's injuries are extensive. His parents believe he was beaten with a baseball bat. There is so much swelling, plastic surgeons will have to wait before taking the first steps to reconstruct the fractures that are now all over the left side of his head. His dad points at his own face as he explains, ââ¬ÅHe's got a fracture here, one here, one up in there and across. Then he's got a head fracture but it's doing pretty good right now. We were worried about it Friday because it was so close to some sort of artery.ââ¬Â Shawn was released from the hospital Sunday afternoon but will return Thursday to have his jaw wired closed. Meanwhile, his parents and family friends worry. All of them say they want to see justice served. His mom says, ââ¬ÅIt will help me feel a little bit better.ââ¬Â According to Shawn's dad, Shirley, all of this happened, just ten days before the 19-year-old's health insurance kicked in. According to the Decherd Police Department's Chief Jim Daniel tells NewsChannel9 the rebel flag IS NOT the motive to the assault. Chief Daniel says a witness overheard Shawn say a racial slur just before the attack and police believe that is the motive of the assault. He says no weapon was used in the assault. Chief Daniel adds, an arrest pending because of the severity of Shawn's injuries witness says. A juvenile petition for aggravated assault will be issued and served for a seventeen year old boy on Monday. The worst punishment the young man can face on the charge is up to two years in prison.

Where is explicit identification of the attackers' race and hate-crime rhetoric? He clearly was beaten for being white.
The only way to prevent nigger violence is to answer with same.

It's too bad he wasn't carrying a gun. Legal or illegal, one should be carried whenever humanly possible.

I sincerely hope this is a wake up call for Southerners, to see that justice is done to these perpetrators who hate the Southern nation.
Having lived in Chattanooga, justice may well be done in this case.

Oh well then that justifies any kind of behavior. [QUOTE] He says no weapon was used in the assault.[/QUOTE] Of course not if he didn't ignore the fact a bat WAS used he would be obligated to file attempted murder charges.
Gee whiz aint it amazing that there is no mention of a "hate crime". Guess Shawn Sells is lucky he's not being charged with one.

Where is the ACLU to defend this mans right to freedom of speech?
