Argument over Iraq war prompts fatal shooting
Associated Press
PRESTONSBURG, Ky. - A disagreement over the war in Iraq between two friends ended with the fatal shooting of one of the men.
Prosecutors and Kentucky State Police determined that Douglas Moore, 65, of Martin, acted in self-defense. Police did not arrest Moore after the shooting at the Bull Creek Trade Center near Prestonsburg Thursday morning.
The victim, Harold W. Smith, 56, of Manchester, and Moore were friends who each had booths at the center. Smith was shot once in the chest and died at the scene.
They began arguing over the war, said Floyd County Coroner Roger Nelson. "I think Doug was supporting it, and this other guy was against it," he said.
Police said the argument escalated into a fight, and Smith drew a small pistol from his pocket, threatening to kill Moore. Witnesses said Moore pulled a .38-caliber pistol from his pocket and shot Smith once in the chest.
Nelson said he found "a little derringer lying adjacent to Smith's hand where he fell."
Commonwealth's Attorney Brent Turner will decide whether to present the case to a grand jury after state police complete an investigation.
Smith drew a small pistol from his pocket, threatening to kill Moore.
Shocking, a peacenik supporting his position with threatened violence.

One more death on Bush's bloody hands.

I'm not sure I understand where you are coming from. Are you implying that all who oppose the Iraq quagmire are "peacniks"? (Similar thinking to "all who oppose Bush are terrorists")

Doesn't usually take this much for people around Prestonsburg to start killing each other. It's a little place near Matewan and Pikeville, which are pretty well known for the body counts that stacked up during the union troubles.
Only surprising part is that Smith threatened first instead of blasting away. Them boys must be going soft ever since the shine trade ended.

So, the one that was FOR the war did the killing and the one that was against it was the one to die therefore no chargers were made.
I wonder what would had happened if the one AGAINST the war was the killer, would any charges be made against him?
"EITHER YOU ARE WITH ME OR AGAINST ME".......Bush. :censored:

No. I'm suggesting there is an intrinsic humor and tragedy in some clown who while arguing from a/the "peace" side of the fence, supporting his argument with a gun.
Same type of tragic irony when a anti abortionist kills a doctor because he is "taking life".
Why are you implying that anyone who doesn't shoot his "friend" while discussing the Iraq situation, is some kind of War Monger?
