Former Assistant U.S. Attorney Julian Murray agreed.

"This is astounding," he said. "You can't say it's unprecedented, but it certainly is quite a move. I mean, a man's home and his car -- to get any magistrate or judge to issue a search warrant for a United States congressman, you can pretty much imagine there has to have been alot of probable cause would have gone into that."
That's because the politicians see themselves as above the law due to their status and the voting public views them as the epitome of virtue and incapable of misdeeds. Because as we all know, a clean background is a prerequisite for politics; with exceptions of course. Seeing that the guy is black on top of everything else the powers that be must have consulted with Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson before moving ahead.

... he said he did not know the extent or the precise nature of the investigation but was cooperating fully.

Weasel words from a weasel.

U.S. Rep. William Jefferson, an eight-term Democrat.

From New Orleans. Why am I not shocked?
Former U.S. Attorney Harry Rosenberg said there was little doubt that the Public Integrity Section of the Justice Department, which is in charge of conducting criminal investigations involving federal officials, was behind the searches and acting with the approval of high-level agency officials.
Public Integrity Section eh. Must really be something shocking here. After all Barney Frank ran a male call boy ring out of his Georgetown home and barely raised any eyebrows in DC.
