As Hamburg burned the winds feeding the three mile high flames reached twice hurricane speed to exceed 150 miles per hour. [left][font=times roman][size=3]Between 1940 and 1945, sixty-one German cities with a total population of 25 million souls were destroyed of devastated in a bombing campaign initiated by the British government. Destruction on this scale had no other purpose than the indiscriminate mass murder of as many German people as possible quite regardless of their civilian status. It led to retaliatory bombing resulting in 60,000 British dead and 86,000 injured.[/size][/font][/left]

Why attribute to malice what can be explained by both incompetence and tunnel vision?

Julio Douhet was a prime air theorist in the interwar period. His theories, which Mitchell and Sversky certainly tailored for their own needs in the USAF, were explicit in their aim of disabling an enemy economy by bombing its population centers as well as industrial targets and military targets.

The state of war began in 1939, Sept 03, between UK and Hitler's Germany.

Bombing is one of the tools of war. "Who started it" boils down to "who started the war" and then, it is "play ball!"

Bombs were old news even in 1939. Consider the hysteria London remembered from the 1918 and 1917 era bombings of WW I?

The topic and the sensationalism is . . . rather pointless. The Blitz was a part of the German air campaign against one of their enemies, the UK. UK bombing Germany was part of their air campaign against one of their enemies.

Who bombed whose cities first is completely irrelevant, as the war between them began in September 1939.

Stuff and nonsense.
