Actor Brad Pitt has viral meningitis, a mild form of the illness. It is expected to clear up in a week or two without further treatment.
Brad, 41, has been released from hospital after tests and is resting up, his publicist said in a statement.
Meningitis is an infection of the fluid in the spinal cord and the fluid that surrounds the brain, and is usually caused by an infection with a virus or a bacterium.
While bacterial meningitis is serious and can result in brain damage and even death, viral meningitis - which can be caught from a mosquito bite - is usually relatively mild.
**Brad has just returned from a trip to Ethiopia with actress Angelina Jolie, who was there to finalise adopting a baby girl. **
He split up with his wife, actress Jennifer Aniston, earlier this year.

I don't ask for much from journalism anymore - I know better, for instance, than to think they'll refer to him as "Mr Pitt" in the body of the text the way the NY Times once referred to Meat Loaf as "Mr. Loaf".
But "Brad"?? Is a simple "Pitt" now considered overly stuffy and formal? Who wrote this - a gofer? The chapter president of his fan club?
Maybe this an edited version and the original read "Actor Brad Pitt has viral meningitis, a mild form of the illness. It is expected to clear up in a week or two without further treatment. He seemed to like the double mocchacino I brought him, but flung the take-out chicken teriyaki across the room in disgust and refused to sign my MR AND MRS SMITH poster. He's still the greatest anyway."
