Lega Nord a Italian political party who's leader Umberto Bossi once remarked he wanted immigrants to hear the sounds of cannon fire when they tried to sneak into Italy recently drew 85,000 people to a party conference. I posted this mainly because I couldn't believe a populist immigration control type party that only draws votes in Northern Italy could draw such as massive audience.Article

Interestingly, the Italian League of the North has strong secessionist sentiments as well. Northern Italy subsidizes Southern Italy. The state of Italy may not survive the 21st century.

Where will they draw the border? At any place in Italy they claim the backward "South" starts exactly south of their town. All the way to the Naples, where they no longer deny being that.
