Well the title of this post is sure to catch attention of a few passersby. The phrase is from the caption of a image from a book titled "The Leopard's Spots: A Romance of the White Man's Burdenââ¬â1865-1900", copyright 1902
Anyone ever read it ?

I honestly dont know about that part. However, the premise of the book is the villification of the northern reconstruction efforts and the use of negro troops to enfoce the new laws, as well as the romanticing of the klans efforts to defend against these things.

Namely, the "coup" in Wilmington when one of the last of the Carpetbagger-Negro governments was literally overthrown by the White citizens of the area.
The Klan stuff was probably romantic literary license on Dixon's part. But, beloved Dixon characters like the "Little Colonel" were based on real men in North Carolina events.
As far as I know, Dixon's take on the jews, was not too different than that of his contemporary Tom Watson of Georgia. Enough said...
