Maryville is a prosperous little town in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, just down the road from Knoxville. The mascot of Maryville High (which perennially has a great football team) has been the Rebels for as long as I can remember, and it is because of this nickname that Battle Flags have been commonly displayed at school sporting events. Maryville has become a popular retirement destination, and the influx of precious, easily-offended Yankees lead to this decision.
