The katas and forms looked a little silly, to be honest, but I guess you can't argue with results. If the 'banger had been smart (obviously not likely) he would have simply tackled his opponent and all the forms would have been useless.
The funniest part was how the 'banger had to keep hitching up his baggy pants! Combat attire, they're not.

Yeah, looked to me like some suburban kid who'd taken some karate lessons but never really used them in his life.
Of course these kinds of things, with lots of friends and video camera's around, and no weapons on a playground, are certainly not the situations that typify significant gang encounters anyway.

When the banger realized that guy was ready to fight he suddenly decided that maybe he had overloaded his mouth and appeared to want to back off. Good that he got hit, maybe he'll make sure brain is engaged before opening mouth.

That's what I say.
The fact that the White kid wasn't intimidated by the "New American" & his Hombres makes my heart warm. Funny martial arts moves or not, the White kid shut them down when they saw this White kid didn't match up to the ones they typically see in movies and TV commercials. Excellent stuff.

The Spic swung fists like a girl. The White kid was smart to look behind him occasionally because the non-Whites frequently attack from behind in group situations. Doing the karate thing was not a bad idea to keep focused and to give the message to the dirty mouth Spics that they either put up or shut up. :boxing:

I watched it over and over two thumbs up :thumbsup::thumbsup: I loved it when the kid got into his karate stance and the wet backs acted like they'd never seen it before. Then the banger started backing off like a little chicken shit. I thought he was pulling a weapon out of his socks at first. Then realized he was probably trying to keep from peeing himself. You notice that when the scene cuts the white kid isn't wearing any shoes, but he was before. Then I hear the banger saying something like "none of that kickboxing shit", the white kid says "come on anything goes". Was the wittle wetback upset that the white oppressor was trying to defend himself? The white kid should be given the key to the city by the mayor.

This is an example of the Mexican machismo. He probably didn't really want to fight, but couldn't back down because of honor. Anyway, the Mexi-kid couldn't fight that well anyway, and got clobbered a good one. Getting taken out with just one punch should put some humility into the kid.

Nice! I have to say the initial "karate dancing" (that's what it was: dancing) looked awfully stupid and pointless, but I'm definitely not going to complain. The white dude really knocked that punk on his ass. With one hit, too! Looks like someone had a big mouth but a glass jaw.

Decent people who get in arguments with punks often have a real disadvantage, because you are not an expert on the crucial issue of when you really start fighting and throw the first blow. As stupid as the dancing looks, it does serve a real purpose in delineating the start of the engagement, so the punk doesn't sneek the first punch in while you are just wondering if/when he's going to throw the first punch and maybe still wondering if there's going to be a fight for sure. Engagements like this are very often quite short as you can see here.
BTW, why does everyone say the guy is Mexican? Doesn't anyone think he looks black?

I don't know why everyone is so down on his, ah, "dance" as you call it. Sure, it may look odd, but it shows the kid had spent a lot of time developing a physical discipline.
It demonstrates a mental preparedness to fight and alertness; note that he controlled the distance between himself and his opponent and was in no danger of being sucker punched.
I've never studied martial arts, but I've done a little fighting in the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism). There is a purpose to his stance, which is somewhat similar to what the SCA uses: for a right hander, one leads with one's left leg and left arm (which carries the shield or secondary weapon). The left arm deflects incoming blows; the right arm assists and is ready to counterattack when an opening appears.
Blows are delivered "from the wrist" in a straight line into the opponent; this is quicker and more powerful. The hispanic or whatever he was, was swinging from his shoulder, from the side, so he was swinging wildly, putting himself off balance, and leaving himself open to be clobbered in the face, which he was.
Whereas, from his stance, the white kid was always on balance and as his arms were always between himself and his opponent, he was much less likely to leave an opening for his opponent to use.
It's all perfectly logical, albeit highly stylized and "odd looking". But as you can see, there's nothing wrong with learning a martial art; it instills confidence and can sometimes be useful.
Of course, I'd recommend never getting into this kind of a situation in the first place. The hispanic or whatever could have had a gun, or his gangbanger pals could have attacked en masse, rendering karate kid's fighting stance useless.
Never assume the badguys are going to fight "fair".
Still, kudos to the white kid.

I agree w/ grep. The homie obviously thought he could just strut around and talk smack until the white left, perhaps worried about being outnumbered. Then he could talk about how he'd "kicked cracker ass." The forms signalled a clear intention to take things to the next level. Miguel's attitude got a lot more subdued from that point.
Word to the wise for all white teenagers: lift weights!

Any one wonders about the reason for the fight, who started it?
Just because one of them was "gang banger Mexican black" (I think that covers all of them) dosen't mean that he started the fight.
While you guys go HURAYYYYY HURAYYYYY for the white kid I would do it only for justice and as long as I don't know about the beginning of the fight I wont say anything.
And then you guys wonder why people feel that this is a Neo-Nazi site. :sad:

If you happened across ONE guy fighting off more than a dozen, what would you estimate the chances were that the lone fistman had initiated hostilities? I will be generous and ignore the fact that the mob consisted of darkies, people with a generally recognized propensity for studiously avoiding single combat, and that the encircled fellow was a clean cut white kid, a species of fauna NOT noted for gratuitous violence.

Not being into the martial arts I can't coment on the form. However, the posture does seem to have an intimidating effect on the enemy. The Mexi-punks didn't appear to be real street boys just cheap imitations, or wannabees. Otherwise, his buddies would have backed him up, and attacked the one white guy.
