Seems like we've had a spike in trolling here recently, with Stigmata, who'sbobbarr and Ked McFarlane just in the last two weeks or so. Are these the same person (I think the latter two, at least, are the same poster)? Are any of them Raina?

Maybe it's "internet therapy week" at the funny farm?

The newest crop of free lobotomies performed by residents has finished?

Raina's bored?

Q, yes, the Trolls are a'trollin'. While I would say that those who come here with opposing views are not necessarily trolls, it's those like bobbarr/mcfarlane/charley-o who post here using bogus evidence, confrontational attitudes and endless arguments who are certainly disruptive and detrimental trolls.

I have no problem with honest disagreements. I used to get into it with darkstar all the time, when he still posted here. Usually you can tell after a couple threads, though, whether someone is looking to contribute to the forum, or whether he is only looking to disrupt it. I think Tex made the right call in all the aforementioned cases. I was just curious as to the recent rise in trolling activity. Did the latest SPLC Hate Group list just come out or something?

Q, XM,

You're not the only ones who have noted this. They will be dealt with on a case by case basis.

I don't think the recent trolls are necessarily the same person, but the ones who arrived within a day or so of each other might have come from the same discussion board elsewhere. One guy finds OD and doesn't like what he sees, then he tells his buddies at the other board: "Yo! Les go dis dem crackas!"

Ponce: A troll is basically someone who attempts to disrupt a discussion board by posting stuff intended to insult and annoy people.

My feelings about the two blacks as well. Trolls actually live'n things up. They are quite useful, unless they can manage to get the forum bickering amongst ourselves (more than we do anyway) in which case they should be banned, imo.

A, B,

I believe you two are right. There may be another one attempting to put on an imitation of what he thinks is "white". You'll know what I mean when you read the posts.
Ok guys what the heck is a troll? someone said that I too was a troll so what gives?
Ponce:

Troll, or troller, is a name given to someone on an internet forum who goes out of their way to be annoying, to draw attention to themselves in the "even negative attention is attention" mode of posting. The idea is drawn from a fisherman slowly motoring down the river, using only his trolling motor, his line dangling in the water, just waiting for someone, anyone, to bite on the bait.

A "bite" is a reply to an obvious bit of "flame bait." Flame bait is what is attached to the trolling hook -- the trolling post -- to get someone to make an emotional or in depth response. A good troll can play a forum post for a lot of replies. His thrill is getting a lot of bites, and if he can, getting the forum members to scuffle with one another over his bait.
