Use a proxy:

Proxy lists:

Short summary: proxies forward traffic on to you, so the IP that shows up at the site you're accessing is the IP of the proxy. Go to Tools -> Options -> General -> Connection Settings (Mozilla Firefox) and Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings (Internet Explorer) and put in one of the addresses you find on the sites above. If it doesn't work, try another. Best of luck.

That's helpful, but question: is your IP the same as your computer's CPU, or is it your location (ISP), or what? What's the "fingerprint" of the IP?

The best list I've found is this: http://tools.rosinstrument.com/cgi-bin/fp.pl/showlines?lines=100&sortor=3

You may have to reload the page a couple of times before it gives you a good list, in my experience.

IP is an address in internet. Think of it as a zip code, but a personal one. Internet traffic is routed between ip addresses, and ip traffic is stamped with the orginating ip and destination ip. The originating ip may be your computer's or LAN router's ip, or a proxy server's ip if you use one. A proxy server is a willing intermediary for internet communication.

Some proxies are provided to speed web surfing, but these are usually not anonymous.

What you really want is an anonymous proxy - a computer you can go through that won't reveal who you are to anyone on the Internet. These can be found by using a search engine to find: anonymous proxy list. A lot of the IP addresses you download in these lists either won't be working, or won't be anonymous. So, you need to test them. Something like Multiproxy will do this. If you find a proxy you intend to stick with, you can directly add it to your browser configuration. Otherwise, let Multiproxy handle things for you.

You can generate your own anonymous proxy list with a scanner, such as Proxyrama (I haven't used this particular scanner). For the best chance of fast proxies, use nearby proxy servers, such as at the local university. Find out their IP range and scan it. For the best chance of a very secure anonymous proxy, scan IP ranges in other countries, especially in countries that are not too cooperative with the US (I think that includes Israel).

Why very secure? Most of these anonymous proxies keep records and when the feds come knocking their doors (which will never happen if you're just having fun with Free Republic by posting conservative messages), the keepers of these anonymous proxies will hand over your real IP address and then your ISP will and over your name.

There are millions of anonymous proxies, and new ones every day. So, you'll never run out of them, even if Free Republic is banning IP addresses right and left.

To avoid using someone's computer without permission (although, some of these anonymous proxies are being ran as free public services, and all the operators are free to block the general public), or to have a more reliable proxy, you can use a pay service like Proxify .

For added security, anonymous proxies can be strung together. But, all you need is one trusted proxy that doesn't keep records, to be bulletproof.
