History of Partnership with Juticalpa
| The dioceses of Fort Worth and Juticalpa, Honduras formed a ââ¬Åcovenant partnershipââ¬Â in 1998 as a result of Hurricane Mitch. The visit by Bishop Delaney, Fr. Bob Wilson and Ralph McCloud provided a focus of rebuilding and humanitarian assistance. This visit was also the basis of developing a relationship between the two dioceses. At the same time The Texas Initiative was launched by which the bishops of the dioceses of Texas agreed to develop a partnership with the dioceses of Honduras. The Diocese of Fort Worth was partnered with the Diocese of Austin and the Diocese of Juticalpa, Honduras. The idea came about the same time that Pope John Paul II released Ecclesia of America, a document on the continent that the pope refers to in the singular. ââ¬ÅBishops have a duty to promote communion among the particular churches, invite and encourage the faithful to live this communion more and more, and to assume the responsibility of developing bonds of communion with the local churches through education, exchange of information, fraternal ties between parishes, projects involving cooperation and joint intervention in questions of greater importance, especially those effecting the poor,ââ¬Â Pope John Paul II wrote. Bishop Joseph Delaney embraced this vision and direction and developed the Diocesan Mission Council to bring into being a greater unity and solidarity of the faithful between the Diocese of Fort Worth and the Diocese of Juticalpa, Honduras. A partnership program was developed for parishes, schools, agencies and other diocesan offices. Currently, five parishes in the Diocese of Fort Worth are each partnering with a "sister" parish in Honduras. The Mission Outreach office also arranges mission trips to Honduras, identifies projects and other parish needs of our sister diocese. Along with the Mission Council, this office will initiate and coordinate activities in which every parish in our diocese has the opportunity to participate in order to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to our sister diocese in Honduras.
