Neoclassical music desires a return to the individual character and heroism of past ages; it can be found in genres such as synthpop, underground metal, Celtic-Germanic folk, and classical music.

Would you consider the music of Hans Zimmer to be "neoclassical"?

Some of my favorite metal bands that incorporate classical influences are Emperor, Abigor, and King Diamond. Older melodic metal bands such as Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Helloween also incorporated elements such as contrapuntal guitar lines, etc. A primary difference between the older and newer classically-influenced bands is the greater emphasis on modulation, ambiguous tonality, and use of nonstandard rhythms in the newer ("thrashier") bands.
