Scalia Bashes Banning of Juvenile Death Penalty
Supreme Court Justice Anton Scalia gave a speech Monday. I can envision massive protests in the streets if Bush has the audacity to name him Chief Justice when Justice Rehnquist retires.
Justice Antonin Scalia criticized the Supreme Court's recent decision to strike down the juvenile death penalty, calling it the latest example of politics on the court that has made judicial nominations an increasingly bitter process.
In a 35-minute speech Monday, Scalia said unelected judges have no place deciding issues such as abortion and the death penalty. The court's 5-4 ruling March 1 to outlaw the juvenile death penalty based on "evolving notions of decency" was simply a mask for the personal policy preferences of the five-member majority, he said.

U.S. Catholic bishops to launch campaign denouncing death penalty. BY CARLOS SADOVI
Chicago Tribune
CHICAGO - (KRT) - Tying the move to the beginning of Holy Week, which celebrates the execution of Jesus more than two thousand years ago, the Roman Catholic bishops of the United States on Monday will announce one of the most aggressive campaigns against the death penalty in recent years. Chicago Archbishop Cardinal Francis George said the campaign - featuring legislative action, legal advocacy, educational work and a new Web site - stems from the church's belief that all life is sacred and should be preserved. */ How can these be reconciled?
Are Roman Catholics in politics simply too self-contradictory and twisted to be taken seriously? ââ¬â one wing, the unctuous mother side, willing to plead for the sanctity of the life of even killers who have demonstrated wanton and depraved disregard for human life (Gein, Dahmer, ââ¬ÅBTKââ¬Â ââ¬Â¦Bush, Blair, Rove..)
ââ¬Â¦the other wing, ââ¬ÅBad Dad tough loveââ¬Â boys, ready to fry under-age kids on the hot seat (if Scalia really defends death penalty sentences for juveniles), while attacking those who declare this not to be within the scope of the founding Constitutionââ¬â¢s understanding as non-democratic, authoritarian, ââ¬Åa mask for the personal policy preferences of the five-member majority.ââ¬Â
The evidence is in, but the jury is still out. Letââ¬â¢s call it in, right here. This is an unholy attempt to wrench power away from traditional (Protestant ââ¬â not ââ¬Åevangelicalââ¬â¢: that term is an ââ¬Åanti-ââ¬Å foil construct of no particular identity otherwise) American politics and give it over to Zionist Jews, who cut a deal with the Pope. As if any free man had to bow down to their ââ¬ÅDeusââ¬Â or ââ¬ÅYHWHââ¬Â in order to choose to die as he or she wants.
