White Students Walk Out At Local Catholic School Many Students Felt Like The Were Called Racist

POSTED: 4:40 pm EST March 15, 2005 UPDATED: 12:25 pm EST March 16, 2005

HADDON TOWNSHIP, N.J. -- Some white students at a South Jersey Catholic school walked out of classes Tuesday in protest over a speech by the New Jersey Secretary of State Regina Thomas.

Tensions have been building up at Paul VI High School since Thomas' speech on racial justice last week.

Many students and faculty members walked out of the speech offended. They said that she lambasted one student for not knowing his black history and that she insinuated that the students were racist.

"It's, like, really crazy right now. Teachers are just standing by the doors. Kids are trying to get out. Kids are in the hallway, they won't go to class," one female student said.

"It was chaotic in there. Nobody went to class first and fourth period," another student said.

Several dozen students walked out after an assembly Tuesday in which the principal offered prayer for healing the rift between students.

"A lot of people are confused, and stuff. I think that's half the problem, there's a lack of communication," a student told NBC 10 News.

Many of the white students and faculty members were offended by what they called an overly confrontational and unprofessional speech by the secretary. Some felt she was calling them racist and a backlash on some black students fueled the fire.

"They don't know what it is like to open up your locker and see a KKK letter there. It's not the most comfortable feeling at all," said African-American student Kristen Minoh.

Minoh said the tension was too much Tuesday.

Many students said the racial problems began only after the secretary's speech.

"I think she just started up a bunch of stuff and basically tried to start something," a student said.

"There's an issue at every school, it's no more of an issue at this school than any other school," another student countered.

Thomas issued a statement Tuesday in which she said that she is passionate about the topic of diversity and wanted to raise the level of awareness. She said that she never meant to be personal or critical of the students or the school.

The Diocese of Camden said it has listened to the views of students and parents on both side of the issues. It said that a majority of those students and parents were offended by the speech and the diocese was going to tell the secretary of state that it felt the tone was inappropriate for a high school setting and that a majority of the students felt disrespected by the speech.
Yeah, right. That is actually a funny statement, in that it shows how blind some people are, or choose to be. This must be what they want to believe. A simple speech can only perhaps bring "racial tensions" to the surface, it is not going to create them. LOL

Euro-American demonstrations of courage like this almost make me hopeful for the future. Almost, but not quite.

The sky is not falling!!!
While incidents like this are positive, they are certainly few and far between it seems. Though just the fact that things like this can be sparked by a speech, shows that "racial tensions" as the article referred to it, are still very much right on the surface for many people. But of course we have been conditioned to repress these things for far too long now.

In a lot of ways, all of this political correct garbage that we have been forced to endure, especially in recent years, could actually be one of the best things that could possibly have happened. By not being allowed to say anything that may be "offensive" to certain special "protected persons", and in a sense being forced to walk around on egg shells, and keep very natural racial feelings in check, only puts a lid on problems that do exist. And soon, hopefully the lid is going to come off and the pot is going to explode.

I'm not so sure it'll need to go that far though.
Exactly. It's just like those who think an economic collapse will be the best things for whites. I'm not so sure it'll need to go that far though.
I think it will. Things have to happen in some type of dramatic fashion to bring people out of their comfort zone that they are trapped in.

One of my favorite quotes is by Malcolm X, of all people. LOL. When he said that "a racial explosion would be more powerful then an atomic explosion.

Yea, Sert, she be lovin' fried chitlins too much, yo.

But, it's heartwarming to see the White youth of America rejecting her tired old redundant and pathetic diatribe....

"white peeples be needin' to be repentin' of dey sins of slaveryin' the colored peeeples since white peeeples still be tryin' to keep us from contributin' our wonderous black values on Amerikuh societys...even you youngin's here today since yo daddys and mommys an dey daddys and mommys an dey daddys and mommys didn't do enough to stop racisms an' sheeeot!"

Is the text of what she actually said available anywhere? I note that her quotes have been carefully not included in the news piece. I can't seem to find them online, though they must have been pretty insulting to get whites, normally accustomed to shifting unconfortably in their seats while being lectured on racism by their Afro-American betters, to actually leave the auditorium in protest.

I would certainly like to see exactly what she said. The article only says that she insuinated that the students were racist. Why doesn't it list some of her exact comments, you know if a white person would have made certain comments, the quotes would be in there.
I note that her quotes have been carefully not included in the news piece.
Bingo. The omission is quite obvious, and it is inconceivable that it without intent. The articles keep referring to what the comments 'insinuated' and how they were 'interpreted', but they never give even the tiniest bit of the actual comments. The fact that the comments have not been reported at all must be because reporting them would interfere with conveying the desired meme of 'white racists walking out on poor blacks who simply want to dialogue about race'. This leads me to believe that that lady's little speech was pretty over the top.

XMH -- Your transliterated version of her remarks was hilarious.

Regena Thomas is just a fat mama with a big mouth who is used to pushing people around because of her race. She should no more be a file clerk than NJ Secretary of State. In a more just era she would have been met with the contents of the students lunch boxes and some piss baloons. Much of the country's problems come from not telling Ms. Thomas and her ilk off in clear and direct terms. The Blacks are so used to being catered to, that they feel they can get away with anything.
