Justin Raimondo: An American Neo-Fascist
By Stephen Schwartz
FrontPageMagazine.com | March 15, 2005
Dennis ââ¬ÅJustinââ¬Â Raimondo is a minor celebrity in the U.S., thanks to a 10-year career as an amateur demagogue in the libertarian milieu of the San Francisco Bay Area, a political environment where anything goes and nothing matters. He has the familiar personality traits of the type: ââ¬Åsentimental formlessness, absence of disciplined thought, ignorance combined with gaudy erudition.ââ¬Â He poses as a conservative but maintains a website at antiwar.com, that features anti-American cranks like Noam Chomsky and is hugely popular with the left ââ¬â not surprisingly since it views America as an incipient fascist state.
Raimondo is a confused and confusing person, who seeks to be the master of the confusion he creates. Born plain Dennis, he renamed himself Justin, while attending the Cherry Lawn School, a defunct prep school in Darien, Conn., which he graduated in 1970.
Raimondo unquestionably encompasses many contradictions. Now past 50, he features a photo of himself on his website with a cigarette dangling from his mouth, in a fey (and failed) pose as an homme fatale. He is flamboyantly gay, but promotes himself as a Buchananite conservative and was in fact Buchananââ¬â¢s San Francisco campaign spokesman during the ââ¬Åculture warââ¬Â that other gays took personally, many elections ago. The entire package is deceitful, and it is a calculated deceit.
The movement that Raimondo has cobbled out of opponents of the Iraq war, who are drawn into his site, is unabashedly fascist. Justin Raimondo personifies an American ââ¬Åred-brownââ¬Â alliance, like the one that surfaced briefly in the 1930s when Communists and Nazis combined forces to bring down the Weimar Republic. This alliance was revived after the fall of Russian Communism, when Stalinists and fascists around the world united on an old platform ââ¬â war against the Jews ââ¬â of which more will be said further on.
Raimondoââ¬â¢s own understanding of fascism ââ¬â a word he himself throws carelessly around when defaming political enemies and disarming potential critics -- is utterly superficial. In a preposterous column titled ââ¬ÅA Fascist America,ââ¬Â (March 3, 2005), he defines fascism as follows:
1) ââ¬ÅThe idealization of the State as the embodiment of an all-powerful national will or spirit;
2) ââ¬ÅThe leader principle, which personifies the national will in the holder of a political office (whether democratically elected or otherwise is largely a matter of style);
3) ââ¬ÅThe doctrine of militarism, which bases an entire legal and economic system on war and preparations for war.ââ¬Â
Of course. applied to America this is absurd. Outside the neo-Nazi fringe, no Americans, least of all Republicans, idealize the state. The ââ¬Åleader principleââ¬Â is not only not in evidence, it is almost absent in a political season when the President has been attacked more viciously than any chief executive in memory; and it is pretty difficult to refer to American ââ¬Åmilitarismââ¬Â when the countryââ¬â¢s security rests on a military that is voluntary and under attack. In the same column, while attempting to draw a parallel between opponents of the anti-war crowd and fascists, Raimondo even lends credibility to Hitlerââ¬â¢s fairy tale that the Nazi seizure of power was a response to ââ¬Åthe imminent danger of Communist revolutionââ¬Â ââ¬â a particularly absurd assertion since the Communists actively colluded with the Nazis in their attacks on Weimarââ¬â¢s democracy and passively supported Hitlerââ¬â¢s accession to power.
In an attempt to smear America even further (as if that would be possible) Raimondo throws in Augusto Pinochet, the leftââ¬â¢s favourite example of an American puppet. But Pinochet never idealized the Chilean state, or promoted a cult of himself as a leader, or prepared for war or waged war against any foreign country, as required by Raimondoââ¬â¢s fascist model. Pinochet even organized a democratic referendum that removed him from power. Indeed, Pinochet was no more than a typical, short-term military dictator of a type seen all over Latin America, bereft of charisma or serious ideology. His rise to power was the consequence of historical accidents, not of ideology or mass mobilization, and he left behind a thriving democracy.
Raimondo himself, on the other hand, has much in common with the true historical type. He once sought notoriety as a leftist, but now poses as a rightist, a pattern first set by Mussolini in 1915. Years ago Raimondo attempted to become a Republican leader in San Francisco but was quickly dumped after boring the small party group in that city with his pretensions and diatribes. He took over a new conservative tabloid in San Francisco and soon put it out of business by turning every front page into a showcase for headlines about himself.
He has always wanted to be considered an author and journalist, no less than a political figure. At about 13 or so, he seems to have imagined himself as a science fictioneer. But he never had the discipline or stamina to apply himself to any profession aside from that of absurdist publicity hound. He has failed as a journalist and political commentator, exactly as Hitler failed as a painter, as Mussolini failed as a socialist leader, and as the most notorious fascist of the left, Fidel Castro, failed as a lawyer.
Like his models, when Raimondo never engages intellectually with opponents, but relies on invective, insults, and innuendo. Notwithstanding his bizarre and vulnerable persona as a gay Buchananite, he glories in violating the privacy of others. He is obsessed with exposing neoconservatives as ââ¬ÅTrotskyites,ââ¬Â a largely spurious claim, since the most famous example among the original neoconservatives, Irving Kristol, was a Trotskyist for only a year, nearly seventy years ago, and only a handful of recent ex-leftists ââ¬â almost entirely ex-Democrats ââ¬â are leading neo-conservatives today.
The psychological term for Raimondoââ¬â¢s posturing is ââ¬Åprojection.ââ¬Â He is obsessed with rooting out alleged political, ideological, and even religious chameleons, with the unconscious intent of advertising his own political transvestism. This pattern is evident in all his activities: he claims that America is becoming a dictatorship, the better to justify his own ambitions for power. He defends the establishment media against criticism by conservative weblog authors, although without the rise of the ââ¬Åblogsââ¬Â he would be nothing. Until the launch of Buchananââ¬â¢s unreadable (and soon to be defunct) American Conservative, his only place of publication was the paleo-conservative Chronicles.
Posing as a war-hater, Raimondo defends murderous dictators like Milosevic, who unleashed the only wars in Europe over the past half century. He presents the Baââ¬â¢athist party-states in Iraq and Syria as victims of the malicious West and openly wished that Japan had won the Second World War, while fiercely alleging his patriotic motivations. When it comes to Americaââ¬â¢s present wars, he revels in a repellent defeatism. The heinous attacks on America on 9/11 become for him an explanation of American ââ¬Åfascism.ââ¬Â
Taking a leaf from his comic-book canon of political wisdom, Raimondo describes fascism as a product of ââ¬Åthe traumatic humbling of a power once considered mighty.ââ¬Â He cites Germany defeated in the First World War, while ignoring that Italy, where fascism originated, was a victor in that war, as was the third Axis power, Japan. Perhaps this omission can be ascribed to the fact that Raimondo idolizes Japan, which was at the height of its power when it attacked Pearl Harbor. As he wrote so eloquently, in an article titled. ââ¬ÅHiroshima Mon Amour: Why Americans Are Barbarians,ââ¬Â posted to his site on August 8, 2001, ââ¬Åthe idea that America is, in any sense, a civilized country is easily dispelled.ââ¬Â By contrast, imperialist Japan, which slaughtered millions in East Asia, is his idea of paradise. He believes ââ¬Åthe wrong side won the war in the Pacific.ââ¬Â It is, by the way, extremely doubtful that Raimondo has ever set foot on Japanese soil.
The upshot of Raimondoââ¬â¢s mishmash is his charge that September 11 was ââ¬Åan enormous defeat for the U.S.,ââ¬Â and thus the source of Bush fascism. Many fascist movements have been expansionist and imperialist, but others were historically known for their promotion of disaffection and demoralization, such as those in France and England before the Second World War, and the isolationist legion in America at the same time, which Raimondo seeks to revive. The Rosetta Stone of his philosophy is Buchananââ¬â¢s idea of the betrayed ââ¬ÅAmerican republicââ¬Â ââ¬â betrayed by democracy that is ââ¬â an ahistorical trope which echoes prior fascist movements.
Classic fascism has other characteristics that resonate in Raimondoââ¬â¢s agendas. He is a fanatical rumormonger, asserting that U.S. war plans against Syria and Iran are nearly operational, while Bush administration policies toward these states have been notably circumspect. He was among the most active disseminators of the legend that an innocuous document, titled ââ¬ÅA Clean Break,ââ¬Â having to do with Israeli foreign policy, was actually a blueprint for the invasion of Iraq.
If, as Mary McCarthy said, every word written by the Stalinist Lillian Hellman was a lie, including ââ¬Åandââ¬Â and ââ¬Åthe,ââ¬Â Raimondo is a prevaricator down to the placement of commas, periods, and semicolons. One of his favorite tricks is the mendacious use of hyperlinks, giving the impression that his statements are backed by other sources. These are usually his own articles, immodestly declared by him to be ââ¬Åclassics,ââ¬Â which in fact have little or nothing to do with his latest ravings, but lead to more lies through more links. This, too, is not original with Raimondo; it is the Chomsky method of meretricious citations.
Raimondo calls Abraham Lincoln ââ¬Åthe closest to a dictator that any American president has ever come.ââ¬Â A couple of days later, forgetting or ignoring that statement, he labels President Franklin Roosevelt the ââ¬Åpredecessorââ¬Â of todayââ¬â¢s ââ¬Åfascism,ââ¬Â and declares that Harry Truman and Winston Churchill were also ââ¬Åfascist heroes.ââ¬Â At the same time, he tenaciously defends Milosevic ââ¬â a dictator who freed no slaves ââ¬â and, equally insistently, denies the occurrence of the 1995 massacre of Bosnian Muslims at Srebrenica. He also defames the Albanians, and encourages others on his site to do the same, and then denies being an apologist for Serbian war crimes. He has called the Kosovars ââ¬Åthe Shiââ¬â¢ites of Western Europeââ¬Â ââ¬â meaning, Muslim friends of America, who deserve to be slaughtered. He fervently hopes for a new war between Slavic Macedonians and Albanians, since nothing warms his heart so much as the thought of dead Albanians except, perhaps, the dead ââ¬ÅZionistsââ¬Â buried in the Twin Towers on 9/11.
Calumny is Raimondoââ¬â¢s Socratic method. He refers to David Frum and Richard Perle, two intellectuals who have no governmental authority whatever, as ââ¬Åstrutting martinets.ââ¬Â When I myself attempted to clarify the status of Islam in Uzbekistan, an American ally, while criticizing obstacles to democracy there, he labeled me a defender of torture. He accused me of ââ¬Årationalizing the same sort of regime in the U.S.ââ¬Â as in Uzbekistan ââ¬â based, according to him, on ââ¬Åtorturing dissidents, shutting out all political opposition, and arresting thousands on account of their political and religious convictions.ââ¬Â
In his latest ridiculous column, ââ¬ÅThe Specter of Fascism,ââ¬Â dated March 9, the Raimondian style of revisionist history is in full display. In a single paragraph, he refers to the leftist New York tabloid PM, published in the late 1930s and 1940s, as ââ¬ÅCommunist Party-controlled,ââ¬Â which will certainly come as a surprise to Arnold Beichman, a long-serving anti-Communist and former leading editor of the paper. PM was famous as a battleground where Stalinists and anti-Stalinists fought for influence, but was never under Communist control. For one thing, unlike the real Communist press, such as the Daily Worker, PM did not promote an ââ¬Åantiwarââ¬Â alliance, during the Stalin-Hitler pact, with the Nazis, of the kind Raimondo wishes to revive today ââ¬â which is why PM, a newspaper that went out of business in 1948, still provokes Raimondista rage. Raimondo refers to PMââ¬â¢s identification of pre-1941 isolationists as a ââ¬Åfifth column,ââ¬Â which Dennis shrieks was ââ¬Åscurrilous and untrue.ââ¬Â Heââ¬â¢s wrong. Calling the pro-Axis rabble in America then a ââ¬Åfifth columnââ¬Â was accurate reporting, just as it is accurate reporting to describe Dennis Raimondo as a sympathizer of Americaââ¬â¢s enemies now.
Sometimes Raimondo posts other leftwing fascists to do his slandering for him. He has done this with Kevin Keating, infamous for hoisting a banner during the anti-Iraq demonstrations in San Francisco that read: ââ¬ÅWe Support Our Troops When They Shoot Their Officers.ââ¬Â If a critic of Saudi Arabiaââ¬â¢s support for Wahhabism enters his sights, he will accuse them of fomenting war against the Kingdom. He has, in fact, insisted that the neo-conservatives in the government are actually preparing military action against the Saudis. Raimondoââ¬â¢s protective attitudes towards the Saudis derive perhaps from the fact he and the Saudi princes share a commitment to the fable of ââ¬ÅZionistââ¬Â involvement in 9/11.
For Raimondo, the Great Satan is America, and the Little Satan is Israel. He has written a screed called The Terror Enigma, that is a kind of Protocols of the Elders of Zion for the War on Terror. Raimondoââ¬â¢s tract ââ¬â itââ¬â¢s only a pamphlet issued by a vanity press ââ¬â insinuates, with no serious evidence, that the Israeli government had prior knowledge of 9/11 but failed to warn our authorities; that because an Israeli lived in the same neighborhood as a 9/11 conspirator they were naturally complicit; Israelis selling art on the streets of the U.S. were actually big-time spies engaged in undermining our government; that here, there, and everywhere, the omnipotent Israelis control everything, so why not the attack on the Twin Towers as well? The next step from this conspiracy logic is, of course, the claim that Israel was in on 9/11 with the Bush administration.
On October 29, 2004 Raimondo wrote a piece under the headline, ââ¬ÅBush and Kerry put Israel first.ââ¬Â It claimed that, ââ¬Åthe Jewish state keeps an entire people captive in the twin concentration camps of Gaza and the West Bank;ââ¬Â and ââ¬Åthe Israelis love to torture and berate [Yasir Arafat] far too much to let him die a natural death.ââ¬Â Referring to the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, he wrote, ââ¬Åone neednââ¬â¢t refer to fiction when the relevant facts are so readily available.ââ¬Â (In other words, the Protocols may be fake, but they tell the truth.) According to Raimondo, ââ¬ÅToday, the word ââ¬Ëfascistââ¬â¢ is the political equivalent of the ââ¬Ëfââ¬â¢-word, rendered virtually meaningless on account of its degeneration into pure epithet. Yet, Israel in its present trajectory fits the classic definition of fascism.ââ¬Â And: ââ¬ÅIsrael, far from being our faithful ally, is potentially an enemy.ââ¬Â
Almost as intense as his hatred for the Jewish state is Raimondoââ¬â¢s loathing of democracy. Some may have been taken aback by the volume of his bile when he denounced the ââ¬Åorange revolutionââ¬Â in Ukraine as well as the current democratizing efforts in Lebanon. But not those who have followed Raimondoââ¬â¢s prominent association with the Russian Jew-baiting website, Pravda.ru, and its American contributor, the neo-Nazi Bill White.
Bill White has followed the predictable career of neo-Nazi agitators. He is a Jew-hater and a compulsive liar, frequently inventing ââ¬Åfactsââ¬Â about those he targets. Posing as a ââ¬Ålibertarian socialistââ¬Â with a site at www.overthrow.com, he recently distinguished himself by hailing the murder of the family of the judge in Chicago who had the temerity to order payment of a fine by a neo-Nazi leader. The Roanoke Times reported on March 3, ââ¬ÅAs authorities investigate the killings of a federal judgeââ¬â¢s family in Chicago, a Roanoke white supremacist on Wednesday applauded the murders as justified violence against Jews and the federal government. ââ¬ËI donââ¬â¢t feel bad that Judge [Joan Humphrey] Lefkowââ¬â¢s family was murdered,ââ¬â¢ William A. White, editor of The Libertarian Socialist News, wrote in an essay Tuesday on his Web site, Overthrow.com. ââ¬ËIn fact, when I heard the story I laughed. ââ¬ËGood for them!ââ¬â¢ was my first thought.ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬Â
While sorting out the love affair between antiwar.com and overthrow.com is akin to diving into a sewer, Dennis Raimondo and Bill White were eager contributors to the Pravda.ru site until the ââ¬Åpatrioticââ¬Â admirers of both bridled at their association with a journalistic enterprise associated, in the mind of most Americans, with old-fashioned Communist propaganda. Articles by both Raimondo and White have been widely recirculated by the Saudi-funded Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). In the ââ¬Åred-brownââ¬Â logic, Jew-baiting works equally well for fascists, Communists, and Islamo-fascists.
Raimondoââ¬â¢s website consistently published propaganda generated by Randall (Ismail) Royer, a former CAIR employee now doing a 20-year federal sentence for terrorist activities. Recently, one of Royerââ¬â¢s associates, Ahmad Omar Abu Ali, was charged with plotting to assassinate President Bush in collaboration with al-Qaida. Before his arrest, Royer distinguished himself between with a campaign to harass and intimidate critics of the jihadists ââ¬â myself, and the Saudi dissident Ali al-Ahmed among them ââ¬â in the Washington region. Raimondo gleefully recycled Royerââ¬â¢s Jew-baiting rants on his website. CAIR, which employed Royer, joined in the campaign by redistributing the Raimondo screeds. CAIR ââ¬â which pretends to be an anti-defamation organization ââ¬â also disseminates the neo-Nazi propaganda of Bill White.
CAIR poses as a civil liberties advocate, Raimondo poses as ââ¬Åantiwar,ââ¬Â White poses as a ââ¬Ålibertarian socialist,ââ¬Â and their comrade-in-arms Kevin Keating poses as a ââ¬Årevolutionary.ââ¬Â The technique is familiar to any history student: the Nazi party called itself the socialist party of the German workers, while plotting to suppress the labor movement and enslave wage-earners.
The law recognizes that some conspiracies are real: one such is the common effort of Raimondo, CAIR, Royer, Abu Ali, White, Keating, and others to silence the critics of Islamist extremism and intimidate the supporters of Americaââ¬â¢s leadership in the global war on terror. Of that leadership, Raimondo has written, ââ¬ÅGo F*ck Yourself, Mr. President.ââ¬Â (November 26, 2003).
Raimondo has taken on the role of a pre-1941 Axis agent in America, lashing the Jews, giving comfort to the countryââ¬â¢s worst enemies, defaming the president, and, in general, seeking to undermine faith in democracy. He also craves martyrdom, and dreams that he will be arrested and tried for sedition the way some of his heroes were. He is so reckless in his provocations that he may some day get his wish. Raimondo is a prophet of disintegration and ruin. Whether he achieves his martyrdom or not, he has certainly earned a minor footnote in the history of ââ¬Åextraordinary popular delusions.ââ¬Â If, as he claims, a ââ¬Åspecter of fascismââ¬Â is present in America today, Raimondo can best locate it with a mirror.
Stephen Schwartz, an author and journalist, is author of The Two Faces of Islam: The House of Sa'ud from Tradition to Terror. A vociferous critic of Wahhabism, Schwartz is a frequent contributor to National Review, The Weekly Standard, and other publications.

Schwartz forgot to say that Raimondo tortures animals and steals candy from babies.
Is anyone surprised to see such venom spewed at Raimondo from the likes of some neocon Jew at FrontPageMag? Raimondo might be a butt pirate, but he has been doing such good work that at least some neocons have come to regard him as a threat worthy of the most vitriolic ad hominem.

Suleyman Ahmad, we hardly knew ye. What amuses/enrages me about all of the great Second Thoughts Patriots like Horowitz, Sandalio and that guy who runs the Phora is their narcissistic eagerness to turn around and exterminate the people they once made common cause with - in many cases, encouraged and indoctrinated into their previous mindset. Their haughty outrage at any suggestion they might be "opportunists" doesn't change the fact that their new crusader's zeal is akin to a recovered alcoholic venturing down to Skid Row to laugh at, piss on and set fire to the same winos they once wallowed in squalor alongside of. By even the laxest standard of behavior, that's vicious and gutless. But it's a good barometer for character, I'll tell you that.
By the way, toggle the specific identifiers from "Jews/America/the President" to "Aryans/the Reich/the Fuehrer" and this swill could effortlessly pass for a Julie Streicher page-1 feature story circa 1939 or so.

Not that it isn't necessarily true.

I meant all dissent against Empire, left, right and other.
Look at how they do it on Front Page: everybody magically becomes a 'leftist' or a 'Stalinist'. Hell, they've got Hitler categorized as a left-wing maniac, engaged in an intramural skirmish with Russia in the All-Commie regional finals. Where do you suppose they Pendaflex 'paleos' in that case?

Suleyman is either on some very strong drugs or he assumes his readers are stupider than he is. As far as being unreadable goes, I got through half of this hit piece before seeking out intellegent commentary from the posters to this. This is nothing but a farrago of lies and exaggerations by someone that is a trotskyite. I guess in Schwartz's case the shoe really does pinch!

It seems every two years or so Raimondo and Schwartz, a fat Jew Neocon who has converted to some Muslim sect, engage is some tit-for-tat squabbling. Yeah, Raimondo may be a flaming arse dart, but at least he doesn't make a spectacle of himself. Plus, he's an excellent writer. And, he's not half as dangerous as Neocons such as Schwartz are--nor as sinister.

Period.

They might not have "authority" in the traditional sense, but they, sure as Jesus walked the earth, have unlimited overwhelming influence on State authorities and affairs. And that's the fact, Jack.

XM,
These just aren't lies, but stupid lies at that. This crap is written for "freeper" types and dittoheads who despite owning computers, are either too gullible or lazy to check out the claims made by Schwartz. And to think, years ago I used to think you had to be smart to use a computer. Now, I have concluded that operating one is akin to owning and driving a sports car. Anyone can buy one, but only a few can actually drive one the way it was meant.

Comrade Sandalio is once again true to his Trotskyite roots, whereby all who disagree with his subversive agenda are "Fascists" or "Stalinists."
Here is a rough translation of Trotsky-Sandaliospeak into English:
1) Fascist - A rightwinger who opposes the neoconservative agenda and Jewish supremacism.
2) Stalinist - A leftwinger who takes leftwing ideology at face value rather than as a tool to subvert gentile society and empower Jewish groups.
3) Democracy - A plutocracy dominated by a Jewish elite, or alternatively a state socialist regime with Jews at the helm.
4) Totalitarian/Authoritarian Regime - Any system of government where white gentiles compose the elite and have the audacity to run national affairs in their own interests
P.S. - Since this is the latest verbal vomit from one of neoconservatism's finest, could somebody move this to "neocon watch?"

AY,
When you get right down to it the entire forum could be called "Neocon Watch". There is little that occurs today that a critical thinker wouldn't be hard pressed to find their finger prints on.
BTW, good definitions. Here's two more:
5) "Democratic capitalism" - an economic system dominated by and for the judeo-plutocratic elite that runs America as their own fief. Closely related to 3) above.
6) "National Greatness" and the "new patriotism" - Jewish supremacism disguised under the guise of American patriotism.

Vide well, oh my brothers, this clumsy "Guilt by Association" smear by Schwartz. Note that Justin has contributed pieces to Pravda--which once accepted pieces by Bill "Iago" White.
By the same coin Mama Lucianne Goldberg, who once merrily fellated President LBJ, is a fellow traveler with the Soviet Khrushev--who also dined at the Johnson White House. :D
Look, I've met Justin Raimondo--whose book Reclaiming the American Right is the finest condensed history of the neo-con usurpation of our Republic. Raimondo is a Paleo-Libertarian--and a Patriot.

Comrade Sandalio now posts regularly at Free Republic, and his admiration for Trotsky, Adorno, and Benjamin is A-OK with them. After all, "conservatism" today has become synonymous with "support for Israel" and "fighting racism and anti-Semitism." When Sandalio showed up for the first time, the "welcome" he got from the regulars was so effusive I thought that a fistfight would start over which Freeper would get to fellate him first.
5) "Democratic capitalism" - an economic system dominated by and for the judeo-plutocratic elite that runs America as their own fief. Closely related to 3) above.
6) "National Greatness" and the "new patriotism" - Jewish supremacism disguised under the guise of American patriotism.
There's more.
"American Patriotism" = Support for Israel
"Anti-American" = Synonymous with "racist" or "anti-Semitic"
"Anti-American" = Opposition to using the US military as vassals of the Likud Party.
Anything is possible with a mind that turns a libertarian like Raimondo into a "neo-Fascist" and an old school anarcho-leftist like Vidal or Chomsky into a "Stalinist."

I think it's important to make a distinction between gentile former Trotskyites like Burnham and Kristol, Schwartz, etc. Gentile (and some Jewish) leftists take the contents of Marxist ideology at face value, so while misguided, are at least sincere.
In contrast, Trotsky and his Frankfurt School/Neocon heirs cynically used leftism as a means of subverting Gentile societies, with no intention of ever applying its egalitarian teachings to their own tribe.
In Pareto's terms, Burnham and other gentile ex-Marxists adhered to the "derivations" of the Left while true Trotskyites adhered to the "residue" of Jewish supremacism.

First off, Justin Raimondo has never "posed" as a conservative, but rather is pretty openly a libertarian (and thus his embrace of leftists who share in his opposition to the war is perhaps even easier to understand, as there's always been a streak of leftism running through libertarianism, though more to the point - why SHOULDN'T patriotic Americans opposed to the suicidally insane imperialist misadventure in Iraq come together irrespective of ideological differences?)
In any event, Stephen Schwartz is a treasonous imbecile. It amazes me there is any even remotely serious publication and/or site which publishes his stuff. He's about two notches below the LaRouchies, in my humble estimation. He's such a friggin' joke, its almost difficult to hate him, but one tends rather to simply regard him as an amusing and pathetic spectacle and on-going, embarassing self-parody.
What kind of a moron gives a shit about anything Stephen "Comrade Sandalio" Schwartz has to say about anything? Talk about zero credibility!
I could spend hours pointing out the fallacies here, but since Justin Raimondo will shortly be doing it for me, I think I'll save myself the work....Man, I really can't WAIT for Mr. Raimondo's response at Antiwar.com!

Funny how Schwartz makes a big deal about Raimondo changing his name. Just how many does Schwartz have? Three?
As verses Schwartz's one hyperlink and that is to an article about Justin that he wrote.
For Raimondo, the Great Satan is America, and the Little Satan is Israel. He has written a screed called The Terror Enigma, that is a kind of Protocols of the Elders of Zion for the War on Terror. Raimondoââ¬â¢s tract ââ¬â itââ¬â¢s only a pamphlet issued by a vanity press ââ¬â ...
I guess it is how you define a pamphlet. To me, 94 pages is a small book.
ââ¬Åthe idea that America is, in any sense, a civilized country is easily dispelled.ââ¬Â - from the diatribe above. From Justin's article in question:
The idea that America is, in any sense, a civilized country is easily dispelled by the orgy of self-congratulation and rationalization that accompanies the dual anniversaries of Harry Truman's decision to atom bomb the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Just taken out of context just a little bit, eh, Stevie?
And again:
ââ¬ÅBy contrast, imperialist Japan, which slaughtered millions in East Asia, is his idea of paradise. He believes 'the wrong side won the war in the Pacific.' It is, by the way, extremely doubtful that Raimondo has ever set foot on Japanese soil.ââ¬Â
From Justin's article again:
The great horror is that this heinous deed was committed against Japan, a civilization as far removed from our own as the streets of New York are from the African savannas. It's at times like these that I tend to believe the wrong side won the war in the Pacific. Just think: if we all woke up one day living in some alternate history, as in Phillip K. Dick's The Man in the High Castle, our cultural malaise would disappear overnight. Instead of listening to the latest loutish lyrics of Eminem, American teenagers would be contemplating the subtle beauty of the Japanese tea ceremony. If contemporary Japan is any clue, the crime rate would be cut by 95 percent, and the literacy rate would skyrocket. Certainly everyone's manners would improve. All in all, life would be far more civilized, imbued with a gentility that would make the New York Post an impossibility.
At least this time Schwartz is correct about the location of the period. I can see why he writes for the Weekly Standard. Whether one agrees with Raimondo or not, it is obvious that Schwartz loves to misquote if not tell out and out lies about opponents.
Raimondo is going to (no pun intended) get on that ass tomorrow.

Its perhaps a coincidence that the San Jose Mercury News is the former home paper of the most recent recipient of the Daniel Casolaro treatment, i.e. a certain Mr. Webb, if I recall his surname correctly (in any event, you guys no doubt recall the reporter who recently "suicided" in or near Sacramento a few years after exposing, in the pages of the Mercury News, the CIA's involvement in cocaine trafficing into the USA).

However, Raimondo finally advised against working with the left, based on his own experience. I saw it myself during the bombing of Serbia. The left had the organization and know-how to put an anti-war protest together, but they were not willing to set aside differences. They had to use the event to advance ALL of their agenda.

Invest in a history book or two. Albania, Montenegro, and Kosovo, where Albanians live, were occupied by the Italians, not the Germans. As soon as the Italians withdrew and the Germans arrived the Albanian Partisans began whacking them good and proper. Albania itself is the only country in Europe that had a larger Jewish population at the end of the second world war than at the beginning, and did not hand a single Jew over to the Nazis. Even the Albanian Nazi leader Xhafer Deva said "Albanians do not surrender guests or refugees." Some 200 were handed over in Kosovo, but 62 percent of Kosovo Jews survived the Holocaust, the highest rate of survival in ex-Yugo. There are monuments to Albanians at Yad Vashem (you can look that up). And as for the infamous Skenderbeu Division of the Waffen SS, the Germans complained that they were the worst troops they had, and would not fight in the rain. All confirmed history, not rumor.

Schwartz should follow his own advice about reading history. Kosovo was overwhelmingly Serb. The Albanians came after WW II as part of a proto diversity plan of Tito's. As for the other claims here I am not sure, though, seeing how Schwartz is the one making the claim I have serious doubts as to the veracity save one. The Skanderbeg division was useless. However, I would bet the Skanderbeg division killed its fair share of Jews.
Funny how Schwartz makes a big deal about Raimondo changing his name. Just how many does Schwartz have? Three?
Sterling Sertorius
Even Comrade Sandalio gets something right every once in a while. Raimando has long had trouble seeing the Japanese as the great barbarians of World War 2. Raimando has written èIn Japan, the most civilized nation on earth ââ¬â the country with the lowest crime rate, the highest technology, and an aesthetic sense far older and more evolved than Western culture at its peak ââ¬â form reigns supreme.ô
Japan launched attacks without a declaration of war against China, Russia, France, England and the United States within 50 years. The Japanese butchered far more Chinese than Hitler ever killed Russians or Jews.
This sentence pops out even among all the rubric Raimondo has ever written - ôJust think: if we all woke up one day living in some alternate history, as in Phillip K. Dick's The Man in the High Castle, our cultural malaise would disappear overnightô. I would like to point out the villains in Dickôs smarmy writing were Germans, who were going to attack the sainted Japanese without warning. His honorable Japanese were going to be attacked by those who failed to recognize Japanese cultural hegemony.
Raimondo has villified Harry Truman for valuing American lives more than Japanese. This comes from a man who would soil himself if ever exposed to danger.

Edward,
My purpose in posting that wasn't about the Japanese as much as it was about the dishonesty of Schwartz. The merits or lack of dropping of the bomb isn't the focus of my post. That is a totally different subject.
Raimando has long had trouble seeing the Japanese as the great barbarians of World War 2.
Possibly because he -- like most -- gets his attention diverted to German war crimes of select Germans (most hired by Uncle Sam post haste) as Colonel Murray Sanders collected up the worst of the barbarians -- Naito, Kitano, Ishii among others -- and brought them over to lecture at Bethesda, share their grisly secrets with our military and become esteemed members of their fellow vivisectionists at the NIH.
I'd like more proof that the attack was absolutely without warning or provocation. The fact we gratuitously obliterated the Christian heart of Japan at Nagasaki just like we gratuitously destroyed Dresden -- combined with our scooping up and shielding those who mutilated POWs, froze them, vivisected them alive -- suggests that the competition for "great" among the various barbarian nationalities of WWII is more fierce than one might think.
My great-grandfather served in the Pacific theatre. I'm under no illusions about the barbarity of Japanese but neither do I believe for a moment a nation which picks out and saves for itself the hardest pearls of all among the oppressors and deathists has a claim to being the Humanitarian of the piece.
Quite the opposite.

Hope I Don't Confuse Him With All These Hyperlinks
I don't have the time for a full rebuttal of this "exposé" of Antiwar.com by Stephen Schwartz, but I'll pick out a few of its more deceitful/asinine points:
Mendacious use of hyperlinks??? Schwartz (who once threatened to sue Antiwar.com over a hyperlink!) apparently avoids mendacity by having a grand total of one link in his screed, but I'll try to explain the practice to him anyway: hyperlinks give the reader an opportunity to judge for himself the accuracy of the writer's claims. I will guarantee you that Justin Raimondo has NEVER quoted or paraphrased Schwartz without providing a hyperlink or other citation to an original source. And anyone can look at any of Raimondo's columns at random and judge the veracity of Schwartz's claim that his hyperlinks "are usually [to] his own articles."
Consistently is an odd adverb to use there; I'll infer that it's a mendacious synonym for "frequently." Again, no link. But do a Google search on the infamous "paintball terrorist" and you'll find that exactly one article by Royer has appeared on this site. As Jim Henley once joked in relation to the Royer smear,
New Republic Writer Jim Henley is how Iââ¬â¢d like to be referred to from now on. After all, I sold them a single article back in 1993. In Andrew Sullivanââ¬â¢s world (scroll down to ââ¬ÅFIFTH COLUMN WATCHââ¬Â), ever publishing a single article with a venue makes you a ââ¬Å[that venue] writer,ââ¬Â and - hey how about that - Andrew Sullivan was TNRââ¬â¢s editor when my article was published.
Maybe Iââ¬â¢ll get new business cards.
A link perhaps? Nope. Here's the only reference to Kevin Keating on Antiwar.com, again via Google.
Perhaps Schwartz, like many folks his age, just needs a remedial course on surfing the Web?

A couple of weeks ago I purchased a copy of "An End To Evil", the neocon WoT manifesto co-written by Frum and Perle in 2003.
On the book jacket, Perle is described in sympathetic press clippings as having (this is a direct quote BTW) "profound influence over Bush policies and officials in the competitions for the hearts of the president and his national security adviser, Condoleeza Rice".
Frum is described thusly: "A not completely crazy case can be made that the most influential thinker in foreign-policy apparatus of the Administration of George W. Bush during its first two years was not one of the familiar members of the gold-shielded Praetorian Guard - not Dick Cheney or Colin Powell, not Condi or Rummy, not Tenet or Wolfowitz - but, rather, a forty-two-year-old Canadian named David Frum."
This is what is printed on the side of Frum and Perle's book for crying out loud. They aren't trying to hide their influence. They boast about it.

Reclaiming the American Right The Lost Legacy of the Conservative Movement by Justin Raimondo
"This is an important book, which fills a vital gap in the history of the conservative movement." ORDER NOW!
The Old Right and the Future of Conservatism by Patrick J. Buchanan Note from the editors: We reprint below Patrick J. Buchanan's Foreword to the second edition of Justin Raimondo's 1993 book, Reclaiming the American Right The Lost Legacy of the Conservative Movement.
What happened to the American Right? What became of a movement once so united and disciplined it could deliver the presidency, consistently, to the Republican Party?
That the old house is divided, fractured, fallen, is undeniable. The great unifier, Ronald Reagan, is gone. The cold war that brought conservatives together, is over. With the Berlin Wall down, the captive nations free, the Evil Empire dissolved and subdivided, many on the Right have stacked arms and gone home. Once there, they have discovered that we come from different neighborhoods, honor different heroes, believe different ideas. To understand the new rifts on the Right, scholars have begun to research its history, explore its roots. Latest to do so is Justin Raimondo, who, in this book, argues that conservatism is a cause corrupted and betrayed. His is a story of heroes and villains, heresies and excommunications, faithfulness and betrayal ââ¬â a veritable Iliad of the American Right.
Raimondo's book goes back sixty years to the days when the Old right first rose in rebellion against the New Deal and FDR's drive to war. Believers in limited government and nonintervention, the Old Right feared involvement in a second world war would mean permanent disfigurement of the old republic, and a quantum leap in federal power that could never be reversed.
But history is written by the winners.
And these men lost it all: jobs, careers, and honored places in their nation's memory. But they never lost their principles. Garet Garrett, John T. Flynn, Frank Chodorov ââ¬â who has heard of this lost platoon of the Old Right? They went down fighting and ended their lives in obscurity, resisting the clamor to sign up for the cold war.
Theirs, declares Raimondo, is the lost legacy. And the failures of conservatism are traceable to the Right's abandonment of that legacy. Beginning in the mid-fifties, the Right was captured and co-opted by the undocumented aliens from the Left, carrying with them the viruses of statism and globalism.
First in from the cold, Raimondo writes, came the Communists, refugees from Stalin's purges, from the Hitler-Stalin, and Moscow's attack on the Baltic republics and Finland. First among these was James Burnham, ex-Trotskyist of whom Orwell wrote that he worshipped power. Burnham went o the masthead of National Review from its founding in 1955, to become grand strategist of the cold war. He would be awarded the Medal of Freedom by Ronald Reagan himself . . . but, Raimondo argues, Burnham was never a true conservative; indeed, was barely tolerant of conservatives. A Machiavellian after renouncing Marxism, Burnham preached "American Empire" as the necessary means to combat Communist empire and was first to call for the creation of a "democratic world order."
A second wave of migrants was the neoconservatives. Though Trotskyist, socialists or Social Democrat in their youth, by the mid-sixties they were JFK-LBJ Democrats orphaned by a party dedicated to the proposition that Vietnam was a dirty, immoral war. In 1972, they signed ads for Richard Nixon, a man not widely cherished among their number in his Alger Hiss and Helen Gahagan Douglas days.
With Reagan's triumph, the neocons came into their own, into his government and his movement. Raimondo echoes the Old Right journalist who calls the neocons the cow-birds of conservatism, migratory fowl that wait for other birds to build their nests and lay their eggs, then swoop down, barge in, and kick the first birds out. If conservatism has failed, he writes, it is "because a Trojan horse inside the movement has been undermining the fight against big government. Since the mid-fifties . . . these interlopers have acted as a Fifth Column on the Right: conciliating the welfare state, smearing their Old Right predecessors, and burying the real story of how they came to claim the mantle of conservatism."
And today? "Two traditions stand head-to-head, contending for the future of the . . . movement. One piously holds out the promise of enterprise zones from South Central Los Angeles to Mogadishu, while the other dares utter the forbidden phrase, America First!" Written in defense of, and in the style of, the dead lions of the Old Right whom Justin Raimondo reveres, Reclaiming the American Right is not about olive branches; it is about conflict, about taking back the movement, about taking back America. Richly researched, beautifully written, passionately argued, Reclaiming the American Right is targeted at the "new generation of conservative theorists and activists [that] yearns to get back to first principles and get in touch with its roots." Many will call this revisionist history of the Right, but even those who work for consensus need to understand how those who do not believe, feel and think. And the timing is perfect. For, suddenly, all the new issues before us, Bosnia, Somalia, foreign aid, NAFTA, intervention, immigration, big government, sovereignty, bear striking resemblance to the old.

The thread was getting off topic which is a shame, for Schwartz deserves maximun exposure for the liar and hypocrite that he is, so I split it. The other part about Raimondo's personal life is here. The title of the thread is one I came up with for lack of a better title.
