Police: Suicide appears tied to Lefkow murders Man does not appear connected to white supremacists

NBC News and news services

Updated: 10:03 a.m. ET March 10, 2005WEST ALLIS, Wis. - A man who killed himself during a routine traffic stop here Wednesday had material in his van that appears to tie him to the murders of the husband and mother of U.S. District Judge Joan Humphrey Lefkow, police in this Milwaukee suburb said Thursday.

“Our investigators discovered some material that led us to believe that this man could be involved or have some vital information," West Allis Police Chief Dean Puschnig told reporters at a news conference with FBI agents and Chicago police.

In a separate statement, the Chicago-based task force conducting the investigation added that "evidence found in the victim's vehicle pointed to potential links" to the murders, which occurred Feb. 28 at the Lefkow home in Chicago.

Authorities would not elaborate on what evidence was found, but the Chicago Tribune, citing sources close to the investigation, earlier reported that the man left a suicide note claiming responsibility for the slayings.

The suicide victim was identified as Bart Ross, Chicago Tribune deputy managing editor Jim Warren told NBC's "Today" show.

Puschnig said the man killed himself with a single gunshot as the police officer who stopped him Wednesday evening approached his van.

In the suicide note, Ross blamed a Lefkow decision in a medical malpractice lawsuit for costing him “his house, his job and family,” one source in the investigation told the Tribune.

A search of lawsuits found that Lefkow had dismissed one filed by Ross in which he sought $1 billion from the University of Illinois. Ross had represented himself, comparing the judicial system to a Nazi state and a terrorist network.

Among other claims, he alleged doctors committed a “terrorist act” against him by giving him radiation treatment without his consent.

Ross' last last known address was in Chicago, which is about 90 miles from West Allis.

300 gun shells in van

The Tribune said the suicide note included details about the slayings not released to the public and that there was a list in the van of all the people who Ross felt had mistreated him, including judges.

Investigators also discovered some 300 .22 caliber shells in the man’s van that are the same caliber as the casings found in Lefkow’s home, the Tribune reported.

Lefkow found the bodies of her husband, Michael Lefkow, 64, and her mother, Donna Humphrey, 89, in the basement of her Chicago home when she returned from work.

Police had earlier released sketches of two men seen near the Lefkow home before the killings, but the Tribune's Warren noted that more recently police have not been convinced that two men were actually involved.

No supremacist link

Jailed white supremacist Matthew Hale, convicted of soliciting an FBI informant to kill Judge Lefkow, had been an early focus of the investigation. He denied playing any role in the deaths and Ross has not been connected with supremacists.

On Wednesday, authorities returned to the Lefkow house and led dogs trained to sniff out explosive material to determine where on the property firearms may have been used.

Also Wednesday, an attorney for Hale said that Hale’s mother asked him late last year to relay a coded message from Hale to one of his supporters. Lawyer Glenn Greenwald said he declined to deliver the message.

NBC's Kevin Tibbles and the Associated Press contributed to this report.

So even though Matt Hale has now been completely cleared of any involvement in this crime, and no "white supremacists" had any connection to it, the governmedia still have to get in their digs about Hale being "convicted of soliciting to kill Judge Lefkow" and passing "coded messages."

The governmedia have made complete, hysterical fools of themselves, and they're going to try to save face by refusing to let go of the Evil White Supremacist angle. Before this story is dropped like a hot menorah, they'll do their damndest to make sure that Sally Soccermom and Joe Sixpack come away with the impression that "white supremacists" must have somehow been involved.

Good Lord, "coded messages!" Next it would have been "secret telekinetic powers."

Good point Arkady. Matt Hale should be freed immediately and the charges against him dropped. Shoot, the guy could probably sue for libel after the vicious lies that were spread about him in the press.

Anyway, Sally SUV and Joe NFL/MLB/NBA will always remember in their peanut-sized brains that "white supremacists" were somehow planning to murder judges and had ties to Al-Qaida and hate America.

It must suck to be a slave.

LOL! I was thinking the exact same thing this A.M. Envisioning the headline mentally...

"Was Lefkow murder suspect acting under influence of White Supremacist Matt Hale's mind-control powers? Film at 11!"

Is it just me, or are "respectable" news outlets' headlines starting to resemble the ones the Weekly World News runs in 48-point type more and more?

What's next?

"Bigfoot photographed in Nazi uniform!"

"Bat Boy seen at Aryan Nations compound!"

Maybe. We should use the net and talk radio and whatever else is available to point out to these nitwits that they've been fooled by the Jewish media again, and that if they didn't learn their lesson after all the misinformation in the DC snipers case, they need to do some soul searching and ask themselves if there's not something seriously wrong with their brains that prevents them from seeing through the Jewish lies. That is, if this suspect turns out to be the killer, of course. I turned on the news when I saw this post and so far it's been nothing but nonstop Michael Jackson, so I don't have a lot of information yet.

I put odds as 80-to-20 against "White Supremacists" being involved in this one. Don't you see a trend? Would it be a novel idea if the media was accountable for wild speculations and libel?

It used to be, that the mob revolted and ransacked palaces for much less than the neocon clique has managed to "accomplish". The difference now is, that the gossip, rumor and propaganda apparatus is in their hands. Anyone doubt that without the "free media" the whole course of latest history would have been completely different?

While I always suspected some mentally unbalanced WCOTC zealot(s) had committed these despicable murders (though I NEVER even remotely suspected Matthew Hale had anything to do with them), it is good to be wrong in this particular instance.

Man Admits He Killed Lefkows in Suicide Note: Note blames judge for loss of 'his house, his job and family.'

by M. P. Shiel

YESTERDAY EVENING Chicago resident Bart Ross, 58, shot himself in the head at a traffic stop in West Allis, Wisconsin, leaving a suicide note admitting that he was the killer of the husband and mother of Judge Joan Lefkow. Ross's last known residence was in the 4500 block of North Bernard Street in Chicago.

The startling event comes just after an effort to tie the imprisoned and isolated Matthew Hale to the killings by former Hale attorney Glen Greenwald, who claimed, according to a report, that "Hale's mother asked him to pass a clearly coded message from Hale to a follower about 2 to 2.5 months ago." Major media reporters were also eager to link Hale to the killings, making much of the Greenwald claim even though the lawyer admitted that the message was never delivered. (ILLUSTRATION: The murder victims.)

Some investigators have claimed that the Lefkow killings bore the marks of a "hit" by an intelligence agency, possibly the Mossad, working to justify more restrictions on American civil liberties and especially to demonize and falsely criminalize Americans working for White interests.

One observer, speaking under conditions of anonymity, stated that "groups like the Mossad always have alternate plans, in case the 'fall guy' they've chosen is unexpectedly exonerated by evidence they hadn't anticipated. As they did with Steven Hatfill, they work on implicating people circumstantially -- sometimes for years -- so they can be positioned to look very suspicious and 'take a fall' when needed. Or they prey on the mentally troubled. I'm not saying that this suicide victim is such a person, but this event should be looked at very carefully. If the Mossad theory is true, it's beginning to look like 'plan A' failed."

Ross has no known ties to White-interest groups. Judge Lefkow ruled against him in a medical malpractice case which, he said, cost him his job, his family, and his home. Ross's note included details of the Lefkow slayings not available to the general public, according to police.

Excerpts from wire service reports include:

Lefkow Murders Solved?

A suicide note claiming responsibility for the killings of a federal judge's husband and mother was found with the body of a Chicago man who shot himself to death after being pulled over for a traffic violation in a Milwaukee suburb Wednesday night, Chicago's police superintendent said this morning.

Supt. Phil Cline identified the North Side man as Bart Ross, 58.

In his note, Ross said he killed U.S. District Judge Joan Lefkow's husband and mother at the family's North Side home because the judge had ruled against him in a medical-malpractice case, authorities said.

Ross has no known ties to white-supremacist groups, Cline said. Authorities had been pursuing possible white-supremacist links to the killings because the judge had ruled against jailed white supremacist Matthew Hale in a trademark-infringement case involving the name of his World Church of the Creator. Hale is to be sentenced next month for soliciting an FBI informant to kill the judge after she ordered him to stop using the name World Church of the Creator for his group....

Chicago police are sending to detectives to Milwaukee today to investigate a suicide possibly connected to the murders of two family members of federal judge Joan Lefkow. ...A man shot himself last night after a routine police pull-over. In his car, police found a note claiming responsibility for the slayings Lefkow’s mother and husband. Investigators also found .22-caliber shells in the man’s van that are the same caliber as the casings found in Lefkow’s home. Lefkow found her husband and mother shot to death in the basement of her home when she returned from work February 28th.

...Investigators early Thursday said a man who shot himself in the head during a traffic stop in Wisconsin had a suicide note claiming responsibility for the slaying of U.S. District Judge Joan Lefkow's husband and mother last week.

Members of the task force of Chicago police and federal agents said the man's van was stopped in West Allis, near Milwaukee, about 6 p.m. As officers approached the vehicle, the man killed himself with a gunshot to the head.

Investigators said the man had a suicide note that included an admission that he shot the judge's family. The note included details in the case that were not released to the public, investigators said. Sources close to the investigation added that there was a list in the van of all the people who had mistreated him, including judges.

In the vehicle were about 300 .22 caliber shells. Investigators found three casings of the same caliber in the Lefkow home this week. Investigators also said they should have enough physical evidence, including DNA, a fingerprint and other items from the crime scene, to make a definitive comparison.

Sources close to the case said the judge had ruled against the man in a civil matter. He was not immediately thought to have ties to any hate group.

The note indicated that the judgment had cost the man "his house, his job and family" one source said.

Chicago police and federal investigators were en route to West Allis late Wednesday to investigate. If the man's suicide note is true, the investigation, which had moved heavily toward the organization tied to jailed white supremacist Matthew Hale, will have ended in a starkly different realm.

...Members of the task force of Chicago police detectives and federal agents were continuing to chase hundreds of tips Wednesday. The task force has now swelled to as many as 300 investigators.

Officials also hope a $50,000 reward being offered in the case might draw someone forward....

...The mother of jailed white supremacist Matthew Hale desperately tried to convince an attorney late last year to pass on an encoded message from her son to one of his supporters, the attorney said Wednesday.

Glenn Greenwald said Evelyn Hutcheson told him that Hale — who is now awaiting sentencing for soliciting an FBI informant to kill a federal judge and is a focus of the investigation into last week's slayings of the judge's husband and mother — called his office as many as a dozen times a day before he talked to her.

"She said, 'I don't know what this message means, but Matt made me write it down verbatim so I could read it to you. He said it is an emergency that you communicate this as quickly as possible,' " Greenwald said.

Greenwald has represented Hale and his organization on civil cases but not the criminal case that led to Hale's conviction for trying to have U.S. District Judge Joan Humphrey Lefkow killed. He said he doesn't recall the words of the brief message but remembered thinking there was no way anyone could understand it without being told beforehand what it meant.

"The message was almost a cartoonish version of what a coded message would be," he said.

Greenwald said he declined to deliver the message, which he said was meant for a member of Hale's group. He said he doesn't remember the person's name.

Federal authorities closely monitored telephone calls and conversations between Hale and his parents, but Greenwald said it was clear that an FBI agent on the task force he talked to did not know anything about the message until Greenwald told him about it last week.

...Hale, 33, is to be sentenced next month for soliciting an FBI informant to kill the judge after she ordered him to stop using the name World Church of the Creator for his group because of a trademark lawsuit.

He has denied soliciting the judge's murder. In a statement released through his mother last week, he also denied any involvement in the slayings.

This week, Hale's parents were told by a federal official without explanation that they would no longer be allowed to visit their son or talk to him by telephone. They had been able to see him at the Metropolitan Correctional Center every other week and talk to him weekly.

Hutcheson told The New York Times that the message Greenwald remembers was about someone her son thought should testify at his April 6 sentencing. She said any coding was meant to keep federal agents from figuring out Hale's legal strategy.

MR, yes, the propaganda mills can pretty much do whatever they to anyone they want. They spread false rumors concerning the "threat" of Saddam Hussein and Iraq and got a huge portion of Americans to support a bloody war and the apparatus still gathers support from their sycophants even after the rumors have been completely proven to be false.

With Matt Hale, the guy has been smeared unforgivingly in the media. I'm not a supporter of Hale, but dang, the guy's already up to his neck on trumped-up charges and then had to be smeared and linked to a crime that was not yet even solved! That's the MEDIA biasing an open criminal case and Hale's sentence can be completely affected by that. There's no justice in that and that's what I don't like.

In such a world, Dr. Ron Paul and the Hon. Tom Tancredo would be the "liberals" on the left of our political spectrum (despite the presence on the far left of such sincere gadflies as Ralph Nader, who would no doubt have been on the ballot here in California, in this more authentic version of America), while the right would be occupied by men such as the Hon. David Duke, Dr. Samuel Francis, Mr. Hunter Gibson, and Dr. Revilo P. Oliver, while the "Reverend" Jesse Jackson would have been shot to death by a South Carolina State Trooper, while trying to hold up a gas station with a buck knife. Rush Limbaugh would sell shoes for a living, and Jonah Goldberg would be homesteading up in the Yukon Territory (Canadian Union with the USA, along with Australia and New Zealand, albeit with an independent, though closely allied Quebec, having been achieved during the peaceful year of 1943). Arnold Schwarzenegger (who, for the record, is actuallty a pretty decent governor, by the dismal standards we have today) would gave gotten about as many votes as Gary Coleman, seeing as how he is equally qualified for the office....ah, to dream.

Police blocked off a street in a Chicago neighborhood where Ross had lived and were searching his house from which he was due to be evicted.

Neighbors told reporters Ross had not been living there recently and was battling money troubles. The Cook County Sheriff's Office told Reuters that deputies had tried to serve an eviction notice on Ross three times last week but he could not be found, and the case was due back in court on Thursday.

In West Allis, Wis., where the suicide occurred, Police Chief Dean Puschnig said officials had no prior contact with Ross, that he had had no known family in the area and that no federal judges lived in the town where the incident happened.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported on Thursday that the names of two federal judges in Milwaukee were on the note found in Ross's van. http://www.rense.com/general63/ssui.htm © 2005 Reuters Limited.

No egg on MY face, boys! I never even lost a wink of sleep over this.

Now....in the interests of fairness...let us talk turkey. Matt Hale was/is a nutbar who was tied in with Ben Smith and his rhetoric alone made him a credible 'person of interest' in this case. However, the nature of his incarceration made his involvement a near-mathematical impossibility here. Just about the only way you would be able to execute the family of a fed judge is via the wild-card element of surprise, and I'd bet money the notion of another Ben Smith was never far from Joan Lefkow's mind. But I'm sure the idea that her godlike powers of removing from a law-abiding taxpayer "his house, his job and family" might boomerang on her one day NEVER entered her mind.

Now - that said, there was far more unease and trepidation among WNs and their sympathizers than in the media. Look at how many of you harbored the dread that it really was One Of Us. Look at ol' Death-to-the-Jews Linder making nice and combing down his cowlick to make a good impression with the same ZOG he ordinarily snarls at all last week. Look at the distaste my "good for Lefkow" post was greeted with!

Sure the media was rounding up the usual suspects last week; but, good grief, the panic experienced on the Far Right was completely out of proportion. Everybody seemingly had one eye on the fire exit. If a knock on the door had sounded, half of us would have been trampled to death attempting to flee.

Yeah, yeah. But it was a logical inference. I meself was hoping to be proven wrong that it was a nutty Hale follower, for obvious reasons: I hope white folks win this bitch. So sure, I am happy. But I wasn't heading for the door.

White supremacist's parents greet finding of Lefkow murderer

BY RAY LONG AND BRETT MCNEIL

Chicago Tribune

EAST PEORIA, Ill. - (KRT) - White supremacist Matthew Hale's parents on Thursday expressed a mixture of relief and anger about news that a disgruntled Chicago man with no apparent ties to their son has been identified as the likely killer of a federal judge's husband and mother.

"I think the cloud ought to be off my son's situation," said Russell Hale, a retired police officer from East Peoria, during a telephone interview Thursday. "This is the most wonderful thing that could happen for us and for Matthew."

Evelyn Hutcheson said she believes reports that Bart Allan Ross left a suicide note claiming responsibility for the killings will benefit her son, who faces sentencing next month for a 2004 conviction that he plotted to have federal Judge Joan Humphrey Lefkow murdered.

But she remained upset that for more than a week Hale's name was linked to the investigation by authorities and the news media.

"They were concentrated so damn much on my son, if this guy hadn't done what he did, they wouldn't have caught him," Hutcheson said by phone. "And when Matt went before his judge to be sentenced, they would have enhanced his damn sentence."

Authorities investigating the Feb. 28 murders of Michael Lefkow, 64, and Donna Humphrey, 89, had been focusing on white supremacy groups and sympathizers, including former members of Hale's defunct World Church of the Creator. Ross, a self-employed electrician and Polish immigrant, has not been identified as a white supremacist or sympathizer by authorities.

"They would have railroaded Matt and given him 50 years," Hutcheson said. "My second thought this morning was the FBI and the prosecuting attorney is going to be pissed because they wanted to nail Matt to the cross on this."

The news of Ross' suicide in suburban Milwaukee was met on white supremacist Web sites and chat rooms with aggrieved indignation about questions that had been raised of Hale's possible involvement.

In an online essay titled "Say You're Sorry!," Billy Roper, director of Arkansas-based White Revolution, called on federal authorities and media outlets to apologize to the white supremacists for casting what he believes were unfair suspicions on their movement. And in typical a post Thursday at the forum section of Vanguard News Network, a writer with the screen name Alex Linder wrote: "Let's see if we can find ONE story in which ONE `reporter' or columnist apologizes to the White Nationalist community for his or her prejudice."

Don Black, 51, founder of the stormfront.org Web site, said he shares those sentiments but doesn't expect any apologies.

"I think this event was used to demonize the white nationalist movement," Black said during a phone interview Thursday from West Palm Beach, Fla., where he works as a computer consultant. "Any objective observer would have concluded that judges and attorneys would make enemies, lots of enemies."

Black said historical examples of violence by white supremacists, including a 1999 shooting spree by former Hale follower Benjamin Smith, do not fully explain the law enforcement and media scrutiny of Hale and his sympathizers.

"This whole thing was a witch hunt directed at us and I think a lot of people were hoping it would be a White Nationalist so that could be used as an excuse to shut us down," he said.

Hutcheson and Russell Hale both said they knew of no connection between their son and Ross.

Hale's legal troubles, which included a ruling by Judge Lefkow enforcing an appellate court decision that forced Hale to change the name of his group, have been a cause celebre among white supremacists. Lefkow's home address and photos of her family have appeared on hate group Web sites, along with erroneous claims that she and her husband were Jewish.

Hutcheson, who is divorced from Russell Hale, acknowledges her son is a racist but says he advocates separatism, not violence. Hutcheson also has repeatedly denied Matthew Hale was in any way responsible for the shooting spree by Smith, who killed two and wounded nine in an attack on Jewish, black and Asian people before shooting himself.

As the "pontifex maximus" of the World Church of the Creator, Hale also promoted a set of beliefs that clearly endorsed murder. In an essay titled "Life, Death and Immortality" posted at the Web site of the group's successor organization, World Church of the Creator founder Ben Klassen wrote:

"Killing our enemies ... is under certain circumstances a necessary measure for the survival of our own race. Therefore, we condone it, and it, too, is no sin in our religion."

(Chicago Tribune correspondents Ray Long reported from East Peoria and Brett McNeil reported from Chicago.)
You know, maybe there's a sliver of silver here. First, there's all this publicity about the possible involvement of white nationalists. Meantime, Roper, Linder, Black and others appear in the NYT and the ChiTrib, etc. Then it comes out the racists didn't do it. So we get some visibility and an exoneration. I mean, I do recall that it was Don Black's appearance on Nightline with Ted Koppel that sent me on my way. How many other curious folks checked it out after hearing about it this time? And see that what's being said isn't horrible, evil stuff but whites pissed about what's happening to them and their country?
Could this guy have been a scapegoat?
You must be a retard. If they were looking for a scapegoat don't you think they would have pinned it on a Neo Nazi, a Racist, a White Supremacist to suit their agenda like they really wanted to in the first place. Duhhh...

For those of you who aren't braindead like Gabby here, I still like what Pastor Gulett had to say about the whole mess, listen to the first 10 minutes of this message. He nails it.
