Patriotic Russian Officers Hold Mass Meeting: Officers warn of "Judeo-Nazism"

According to the Sova Information-Analytical Center, between 400 and 600 patriotic army officers held a rally in Moscow on February 19, 2005. Rodina (Motherland) Deputy Igor Rodionov, also a former minister of defense under Yeltsin, addressed the mass meeting. In addition, a former Rocket Troops commander, Leonid Ivashov, and head of the Union of Officers Stanislav Terekhov also addressed the rally.

The Russophobic press has reported that Terekov advocated violence against Jews by calling for the officers to fight “against Judeo-Nazism.” Ivashov warned his fellow officers to “be ready to defend against, not just the external, but also the internal enemy.”

Igor Rodionov was one of the State Duma deputies who signed a letter calling for the Prosecutor General’s Office to ban Jewish organizations.

Rabbi Adolf Shaevich was quoted as demanding that local authorities prevent the meeting in order to send a signal that any criticism of Jews will not be tolerated in Russia. “Unfortunately, the prosecutor’s office follows the directives of its leadership ‘not to touch,’ which means that we will see more than of one of these conferences in the future," he said in complete disappointment.
