Are full auto's legal now?
Yes, a person can get a license to own/sell automatic weapons. I don't imagine that you need a license to fire someone elses weapon.
To purchase an NFA weapon [machine gun], you must submit two sets of fingerprints, a recent photo, a sworn affidavit that transfer of the NFA firearm is of "reasonable necessity," and that sale to and possession of the weapon by the applicant "would be consistent with public safety" and endure a background investigation. In addition, the application must be signed by a chief law enforcement officer with jurisdiction in the applicant's residence.
The text of the National Firearms Act as amended is available online here.

Full autos are fun to shoot, but a lot of people who jumped through the hoops to buy one legally say it wasn't worth it. They feel that semi-auto fire puts out lead more than fast enough. Even the military says that rapid semi-auto fire is more effective than full-auto at all but very close range.

On the other hand, I can't pretend not to be pissed that these weapons are so tightly regulated. I consider the relevant laws invalid and worthy of being ignored, should I ever choose to do so.

Yes, if you've ever fired a regular weapon on full automatic, it becomes obvious how hard it is to fire one accurately in that mode. Real automatic weapans have heavy barrels and other features that make them hard to carry. The really aren't really applicable in any self defense situations you're likely to encounter, especially those that could explain to skeptical law-enforcement types.

And the legal end of it gives me the willies too. The last thing I'd think we'd want to do is give some law enforcement officer encouragement and carte blanche authority to go on some snooping expedition on us. I'd suggest if you're looking for sources of Rambo machisimo to look elsewhere.

Only time I like full auto is in a banzai charge or when you use MAS when setting up an ambush.

Semi autos are ok but mus people don't know how to use them and waste most if not all the bullets, you also have to carry to much ammo.

I'll stick to my good old 30-06 bolt action that way I can reach and touch someone from safety, the only one that I am afraid in confronting is the M-80 (50 cal. sniper) and the newer models.

In the hills of Cuba at the beginning of the revolution Cansro with 27 men confronted Batistas army with over 470 men, all that Castro had was bolt action rifles and he won that skirmish, he danced to the tune of the minuet and made Batistas army disperse in all direction.
