John Wayne attacked as "racist"

[QUOTE]Movie Boycott Group Cries Racism

John W. Barry, Poughkeepsie Journal (NY), Jan. 4

As a boycott of local cinemas enters a new phase and organizers maintain charges of racism, the owner of the theaters says the activism actually spurred sales.

Steve Greenfield of New Paltz is co-chairman of a group that last month launched a boycott of Roosevelt Cinemas in Hyde Park, Lyceum Six in Red Hook and New Paltz Cinemas. On Friday, Greenfield’s group handed out fliers at New Paltz Cinemas that read, “Don’t Sponsor Hate: This Theater is Under Boycott.” Plans call for more leaflets to be handed out, next time in Dutchess County.

Greenfield, who heads a coalition of organizations and individuals called the New Paltz Green Action Committee, said theater owner Al Bulay can show any movie he likes, but he must respect the marketplace by opening his screens up to differing points of view.

The boycott was spurred by a radio ad taken out by Bulay on WGHQ (920 AM) in Kingston that slammed filmmaker Michael Moore and praised the values associated with the late actors John Wayne, Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Stewart.

“I hope we can do it again next Christmas,” Bulay said Monday of the boycott. “It’s been very good for sales.”

A press release issued last month that called for the boycott said Bulay’s ad on WGHQ was “blatantly racist.”

“ . . . It is especially offensive that the theaters’ management recalls John Wayne movies as the paragon of ‘family film fare,’ ” the press release said. “John Wayne starred in over 100 of the most violent films ever made, including dozens in which Native Americans and Mexicans were portrayed as dangerous savages created specifically for remorseless sport hunting by white settlers and armies.”

Any organization that refers to itself as the New Paltz Green Action Committee has got to be comprised of morons. The variety which love to denigrate anything remotely pro-American, pro-Western culture. People, like Mr. Greenfield, who probably are still mourning the collapse of the Soviet Union & Marxism, & still strive to implement those failed socialist experiments in misery into American society. The same strident, screeching lefties who will honor any culture, anywhere in the world, as long as it is not Euro-centric, white Christian culture. The Duke may have had a limited acting range(with & without horse), but he embodied an American idealism & confidence which apparently are still highly distaseful to people of Greenfield's ilk. I think perhaps I'll send the high-strung folks at the NPGAC a nice poster of JW, suitable for framing.

Ironic they are boycotting the Duke when he loved Mexicans and Mexico. He had a hacienda down there and a Mexican girlfriend.

He always tried to put Mexicans in his movies. And this is the thanks he gets.

This is just one of those articles for which there just isn't an adequate response. This is just for laughs, right?

Notice the geek who is leading this racist boycott didn't identify any of the supposedly racist John Wayne movies. Wasn't John Wayne married to like 3 different Mexican women in his life?

It is becoming increasingly apparent that we can no longer voice opinions that support the political right if any person is offended. John Wayne movies are definately much more cinematically great than Michael Moore movies. Even looked at anachronistically, John Wayne is a much greater actor and frankly the owner of a movie theatre should be able to show whatever he so chooses. Movie theatres should be able to play Birth of a Nation and only allow whites if they so choose, but because of the damned Civil Rights Act, we no longer have the Constitutional guarantees we should have. These people need to read the Kentucky Resolutions and South Carolina needs to nullify the Civil Rights Act now!

Rather unsurprising overall, given that progressive New Paltz is on the cutting edge in handing out sodomite "marriage" licenses.

When I was taking film courses in high school back in the mid to late 70's (U of M college level classes) the film "Birth of a Nation" was required viewing as it was then considered to be one of the finest films ever made- both cinematically as well as the first of a then new genre- the epoch.

Today, if you mention it, you are told you are a racist for even having viewed it. Expect this to happen to films starring such actors as John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Gary Cooper, Roy Rogers and Gene Autrey. It is the slow eradication of our history, art and overall culture by those who have none.

This is why I buy every piece of Americana cinematics I can lay my hands on. I even have a copy of "Lonesome Dove", which is a movie I consider to be the finest Western ever made, as well as a testament to the courage of white men, and women and the sheer greatness of the things "ordinary" men did every day in the building of this nation. Most people don't even know that there really were two retired Captains of the Texas Rangers who actually did what the men in that movie did. In a small town in Wyoming, well off the interstate, but located along the old entrance to the town via the two lane hiway, is a memorial to these men and what they did as they passed through there on their way to Montana. To this day, no Mexican will do anything but show respect to a tall white man in a Stetson- they learned to respect them the hard way, by losing numerous border wars between 1870-1930.

John Wayne and others like him, though not real "cowboys" or pioneers, did their best to represent these people in an honest and forthright manner. Further more, they lived their lives in private in a way all whites could be proud of- unlike today's Hollywood crowd.

Greenfield can open up his own theater chain to push his propaganda, and get the f*** off of Bulay's property to hand out flyers while he's at it. Just because some anti-racist has something to say, that doesn't obligate private media owners to publish it--that's the way "the marketplace" works, unless you're a Bolshevik.

Sometimes I think he would have been a better choice than Reagan for the leadership of the GOP.
