MIAMI - The U.S. government has agreed to settle with Holocaust survivors who claim that American Army officers during World War II plundered a trainload of family treasures that had been seized by the Nazis
The families and the Justice Department (news - web sites) told a judge Monday that they have agreed in principle to a financial award over the "Gold Train," but the exact terms have not been worked out.
The lawsuit sought up to $10,000 each for as many as 30,000 Hungarian Jews and their survivors.
U.S. District Judge Patricia Seitz told attorneys to deliver a package detailing a worldwide settlement by Feb. 18.
"This agreement is a step closer to the goal we all share, a measure of justice for these Holocaust victims and their families," said Sen. Charles Schumer (news, bio, voting record), D-N.Y.
In 1945, in the waning days of the war, the Nazis sent 24 train cars toward Germany carrying gold, silver, paintings, Oriental rugs, furs and other household goods seized from Hungarian Jews.
Nazis, Hungarians and Austrians stole from the train along the way. The train was then intercepted by U.S. forces, and American officers helped themselves to china, silverware and artwork for their homes and offices, according to an advisory commission appointed by then-President Clinton (news - web sites).
The train and cargo worth an estimated $50 million to $120 million were shrouded in official secrecy until a presidential commission on Holocaust assets detailed it in 1999.

I knew about this treasure train a long time ago and Gen. Patton was one of those who took home a few "tokens".
And I wonder who keep some of the treasure trove at the bottom of the mine in the golden room.
And then you have Iraq and the billion and billions in pure cash, do you really think that it went back to the Iraqis to whom it belonged?

Is there no end to the US paying out Holocaust claims? Why don't we send the Jews a bill for liberating them?

Ironic, that so many times the number of dead in Auschwitz etc have been down-graded (even by Jews at points) but the 6 million sum remains. Guess they can't count...

The key to the monstrousness of these 'reparations'. Men whom you would never have lifted a finger to aid, or even acknowledge, lost the most precious 'heirloom' one can lose - their lives - to pull your scheming asses out of a fire you yourselves helped to stoke. What price can you put on a man's life? It has to be worth ten, twenty, a hundred times what a painting or a vase or a Meissen cabinet is worth. It isn't as if America was champing at the bit to shoot at German and Japanese soldiers in a war that didn't involve us....we had to be carefully steered into its direct path by Roosevelt and Harry Hopkins and [I]their [/I] 'advisors'.
When do the [I]Jews [/I] make gratitude payments to the men who left behind friends and families and sweethearts and wives, children, brothers, sisters; who fought and watched friends die and lost limbs and often died themselves so that Jews could live to outlaw Christmas and the Ten Commandments and their freedom to associate with whom they pleased? When do Jews paratroop into [I]anywhere[/I] to risk their lives for gentiles?
Best not to ask such questions too loudly. Better to pretend you're guilty, pretend you're sorry, and pay. Better a sucker contemplating his suddenly-empty wallet than a pariah in his own homeland.
