Protester attacks David and Victoria Beckham at Madame Tussauds

A controversial nativity scene at Madame Tussauds, featuring among others David Beckham as Joseph and his wife (ex Spice Girl Posh) Victoria Beckham as the Virgin Mary, was attacked by a protester.

The nativity scene had received criticism from a number of religious leaders and several protests, but despite that, the scene has attracted quite a few visitors.

Staff tried to stop the attacker, but he managed to escape. The Sun newspaper (who else?) have set up a special dial-in line today, so that people can give information if they think they know who the attacker is.

We are guessing that it was either a devout follower who objected to Joseph and the Virgin Mary being portrayed by the Beckham's, or a dedicated football fan who still hasn't forgotten how "Joseph" missed a penalty in the Euro 2004 competition!

Madame Tussaud's have certainly created some interest with the scene and have displayed a fairly "wicked" sense of humour in their choice of celebrities.

Whilst some may find that choosing the Beckham's for the role of Joseph and the Virgin Mary might be stretching the imagination a bit, having Tony Blair and George Bush as two of the "Wise Men" is taking things into the "twighlight zone!"

Kylie Minogue, quite rightly, plays the "Angel" in the nativity scene.

Madame Tussaud's have said that the tableau was a tongue-in-cheek method of bringing the nativity to a wider audience and stated "We are not suggesting for one minute these celebrities actually represent the biblical characters themselves and we are sorry if it has been misconstrued as such"

Tussaud's displayed some more of that humour when explaining the protestors attack "He pushed Posh and Becks over. It caused some damage but we don't know how much. The baby Jesus is fine"

In his attempt to perhaps stop the nativity scene, the attacker has probably created even more interest in it!

The damage will no doubt be repaired after a "Silent Night" or two.

"The British Red Cross has been criticised for banning Christian symbols from its shops for fear of offending minority faiths."

The secularist even want to ban Christmas cards I mean it boggles the mind.
