The Oldest Sin:
America’s Prison of Shame, 2004+

MY ARGUMENT:

The inter-related and combined impact of

  1. Bush’s use of “faith”, as president of all, dumping his understanding of this highly subjective term into the mainstream of civil political conversation; plus

  2. Speechwriter David Frum’s use of “evil”, followed by these comments on Fallujah after Bush’s re-election (having the audacity to define what American voters voted on):

NOV. 9, 2004: SEEING IT THROUGH “For days before the U.S. election, Marines and Iraqi troops massed around the city of Fallujah. As the voters arrived at the booths, they knew that their ballots would determine the whole future course of the war in Iraq. With everything at stake, they cast those ballots for George Bush. Now the battle has begun. What is to come we cannot know. But we can know this: Fully aware of the stakes, American voters massively rejected the candidate who promised to put an end to battles like Fallujah--and massively voted in the candidate who pledged to do whatever was necessary to win these battles.”

[B]3. (1. + 2) created a psychosemiotic regime of group communication characterized by Freud as “the masochistic trend”: the perversion of pleasure taken in suffering[/B].

The masochistic trend can also be described as the direction followed by group processes when its judgments of right and wrong (‘morality’) are brought under the Punishing Father, or, in Archetypal terms, God. This mental state and attitude is a revival of the childhood position of consciousness in a world dominated by Big things that can hurt and destroy, the chief of which the child must contend with are parents. The psychological “imagos” left by these personal influences on the child, Freud says, “are linked to the influences of teachers, authorities, of self-chosen models and heroes venerated by society….(or..) the last figure in the series beginning with the parents is that dark supremacy of Fate, which only the fewest among us are able to conceive impersonally. Little can be said against the Dutch writer Multatuli, when he substitutes the divine pair Logos kai Ananke for the Moira of the Greeks, but all those who transfer the guidance of the world to Providence, to God, or to God and Nature, rouse a suspicion that they still look upon these farthest and remotest powers as a parent-couple – mythologically – and imagine themselves linked to them by libidinal bonds.” (“The Economic Problem of Masochism”, l924) As if humankind’s destiny was perpetual childhood, projecting punishments and rewards consequent on being good little boys and girls, to support moral judgments.

It is now known, in support of this, that the human fetus is imprinted in utero by a bonding to its own placenta. This is carried over after birth to the sense of inner connection to a phantom Helper or Punisher (nurturant or ‘poisonous’ =blood corrupting placenta). Thus, a foundation in actual experience exists for a sensation of connectedness to the “cosmos”, as fetus/children inside, or ‘under’ placenta/parents. And, with sexual development, love for them -- even as punishers, and, perversely, even because they are punishers, in cases of abuse turned masochistic. Lack of maturity increases the sense of an inner bond. The idea of “sin”, of offending the phantom Helper or provoking (His, its opposite) the Poisonous placenta, develops and grows with the sense of worthlessness. In goes with the child’s sense of worthlessness, guilt and shame (‘bad boy’ or girl). In later life, these pass through stages of oral, anal, genital grounds of libidinal satisfaction of the body on itself (mouth, rectum and sex organs as centers of actual pleasure sensations stimulating the brain).

What “sin” is, psychologically – that is to say, what a given individual person takes as sinful – depends on the level of psychosexual development, or maturity. Earliest “sin” is violating of toilet training rules: soiling oneself. Incontinence, loss of bladder or bowel control, later tends to be regarded with shame, showing loss of acquired mastery of instinct by the ego. Mixing sexual gratification with the sense of sin deriving from the anal stage of instinctual development creates the sadistic (reverse masochism mechanism: sexual pleasure taken in torture) creates the desire to punish sin “for love of God”. This goes over, as behavior, into inflicting anal rape abuse on children. The child in the abuser, who themselves have been forced to endure pain and like it (“submit or die”), is gleefully returning what they got, and doing it in love!

This is how the understanding of “sin” gets lowered, psychologically. It is called regression -- from the demands made by a sex life that trends toward marriage and reproduction, to the earlier pre-Oedipal stage.

[B]Summary: As a result of Bush’s faith, brought into the universe of discourse of American communication with David Frum’s “evil”, as he defines the vote for moral values as a vote to massacre Fallujah, the grammar of “sin” – what ‘sin’ in – has regressed from Oedipal guilt to anal-sadistic shame. Genital level: Christian: sin = whatever indentures pleasure. (support for definition: Freud, the Oedipus complex and sublimation)

Anal level: antediluvial sin = buggering/killing children -- Book of Enoch

Ancient Sacred Texts tell the story of a massive struggle in humanity for mastery of sexual instinct to make Christian civilization possible, and vive versa. The present reversal arouses the oldest instincts, rituals and depravities humanity had previously surpassed. 

THIS CORRESPONDS TO DESCENT FROM  NEUROSIS TO PSYCHOSIS in the presidential vote, masochistically retaining  the known cause of suffering after its lying ways and their consequences were fully exposed.

[/B] (Note: “Luke’s verse in the original Greek reads: “This is my Son, the Elect One (from the Greek ho eklelegmenos, lit. “the elect one” – a phrase found 14 time in the Book of Enoch. To the apostles who knew this book, the connection would be: “This is my Son, The Elect One promised in the Book of Enoch.”)

His countenance was full of grace, like that of one of the holy angels. Then I inquired of one of the angels, who went with me, and who showed me every secret thing, concerning this Son of man; who he was; whence he was; and why he accompanied the Ancient of days.  2.  He answered and said to me, This is the Son of man, to whom righteousness belongs; with whom righteousness has dwelt; and who will reveal all the treasures of what which is concealed; for the Lord of spirits has chosen him; and his portion has surpassed all before the Lord of spirits in everlasting uprightness.”

[B]Comment:  Jesus would have known this.  …claimed it of  himself as Messiah, derived from the idea of an “Elect One” (Neo’s Neo”).   [/B]  The analysis has arrived here at the point of intersection of Biblical and pre-Biblical, specifically Sumerian (Akkadian, Assyrian) records.  The Enoch writings are very old (from the second century BC), and, by content, assign themselves to the most ancient times, that of Adam and Eve’s own sons (Enoch is the seventh.  Gen. 5).  This lineage of names, as signs (spec. personifications of archetypes, father-son succession), plus the indelible events of recorded in Genesis 6; so undeniably there, but essentially unassimilated by mainstream theological historical grammar.   Standing out like a sore thumb, so to speak.  This, and the Book of Jubilee, also about this time a century or two before Christ,  considerably fleshed out of the truncated Hebrew scripture version, so to speak.  Specifically, as to the origin of sinful abominations:

(Names “chiefs of tens.”)

Chapter 7

“1. And all the others together with them took unto themselves wives, and each chose for himself one, and they began to go in unto them to defile themselves with them, and they taught them charms 2 and enchantments, and the cutting of roots, and made them acquainted with plants. And they 3 became pregnant, and they bare great giants, whose height was three thousand ells. Who consumed 4 all the acquisitions of men. And when men could no longer sustain them, the giants turned against 5 them and devoured mankind. And they began to sin against birds, and beasts, and reptiles…hen the earth ( ? ENKI?)laid accusations against the lawless ones.”

Chapter 8

“1 And Azazel taught men to make swords, and knives, and shields, and breastplates, and made known to man the metals of the earth and the art of working with them, and bracelets, and adornments, and the use of antimony, and the beautifying of the eyelids, and all kinds of costly stones, and all 2 coloring tinctures. And there arose much godlessness, and they committed fornication, and they 3 were led astray, and became corrupt in all their ways.

…. Whereupon Michael, Uriel, Raphael and Gabriel looked down from heaven and saw much blood being shed on earth. The Council decides to cleanse the earth of them with a flood. Enki warns Zuisudra/Noah, however, and the life forms are spared.
