The election was a close one, but despite an increasingly bloody and stalemated war in Iraq, Dubbya has pulled it out. The consensus among the commentators is "Its very difficult to beat a President In Wartime".

What has got me thinking is the odd timing of Bin Laden's latest video. After being in hiding for 3 years, with virtually no one sure if he's dead or alive, he shows up just before the election with a bombshell, an authentic video. I don't even hear what he said on it, of course just before the election of all times I wasn't paying very close attention, just that he put it out.

Why did he issue it though? The consensus at the time was it might have been a secret coded message for the vaunted election day attack. Yet election day came and went without a sound. Amazing actually, in view of all the Al Queda threats. We have the most open society in the world, and we go into panic mode upon teror threats. Witness the gas scare on Sept 11. Bin Laden would have found it very easy, in a close election, to have got nationwide publicity with just a couple of bomb threats. Such would have disrupted voting patterns and for the second time, caused a Presidential election whose outcome as an expression of the people was flawed. Yet they huff and puff in private for the FBI's eavsdroppers, but nary a hostile post-it note on election day is seen. And not coincidentally, Bush eeks it out on the basis of less than a 2% margin of victory in midwestern Ohio.

I wonder - has anyone ever considered Bin Laden might view Dubbya as the best friend in the Middle East he ever had? Just think about it. He's removed his enemy Saddam, and the anti-clerical Baathist regime. Now Iraq in all probability will eventually go to some fundamentalist Islamic regime, quite likely sympathetic to Bin Laden. Or even better, we stay, and prop up a puppet regime that proves a magnet for anti-American sentiment and terrorists everywhere in the region - a veritible terrorist breeding ground.

Not to mention our uncompromising stance on Israel. Throughout the Islamic world we are building up a population which is convinced that America is just a western extension of Israel, and our heads of state are just Sharon puppets. What more could an aspirant like Bin Laden want?

Funny I haven't heard much of this video and its influence on the election. But it had to have helped Bush. After a long campaign where he's accused of waging a war in Iraq that is really nothing more than a Bin Laden witch- hunt, all of a sudden the high wiccan priest suddenly appears, casting menacing occultic incantations over the body politic. And not surprisingly, the chief witch hunter makes a last minute jump in the polls, defeating the chief skeptic.

Doubt if you'll hear it much on Network TV. But I bet Dubbya in private is profusely thanking old Bin. Its an old poloitical trick really known by pols everywhere. In a war against a hated foe, leaders on both sides benefit politically. Which is why these wars so often drag on forever. It turns out neither side (at the leadership level especially) has any interst in seeing them end.

I guess I'm thick... I missed the conspiracy theory in that... all I saw was observation and speculation. Most of it looked pretty reasonable to me.

But then, I have no allegience to Bush. I don't really care for liberals all that much.

Did they use a better Actor this time?

a lot of people take the same line, although there they seem to be thinking the tape must have been faked.

Osama bin Laden is a product of the CIA. His name while here in the United States was Tim Osman. He is basically an American, has major ties to the Bush family, and poses no threat to America other than which the Mossad/CIA allow. He is alive because our government allows him to be alive. He is not a terror threat. We have been lied to by our media, given false leads and false impressions in all regards. This is fact. bin Laden will never be captured. He is a dying man with liver cancer. This is all a false show.
