The moderator, Mr. Shieffer: "**Let's go to a new question, Mr. President.

I got more e-mail this week on this question than any other question. And it is about immigration.**"

Bush, far less honest than Kerry, claimed that he believes illegal immigration to be a "serious problem." He boasts of increased border security (which has not and is not really designed to reduce illegal immigration). But, then he let's slip his real belief with this statement, "I believe there ought to be a temporary worker card that allows a willing worker and a willing employer to mate up, so long as there's not an American willing to do that job, to join up in order to be able to fulfill the employers' needs... If somebody is coming here to work with a card, it means they're not going to have to sneak across the border." Translation: "I'm all for opening the boarder all the way and making everyone legal."

But, kuddos to Bush for "Now, it's very important for our citizens to also know that I don't believe we ought to have amnesty." Not that I think he has any intention of opposing de facto amnesty with his worker card program.

Kerry, with this statement, supports amnesty for illegals "We need an earned-legalization program for people who have been here for a long time." Kerry also said he supports a "guest-worker program" which is essentually the same as Bush's worker cards.

For being the real top issue, there was only one question on immigration. And, that's all I expected. As usual, the Democrats and Republicans control the subject of public debate (not just in the formal debates) and only offer an illusion of choice (Kerry the open liberal, Bush the liberal who pretends to be a conservative). And, anyone who votes for either Bush or Kerry is giving their approval to this sham.

Happy Hacker,

Well Bob Shieffer did ask the question. He said he was going to ask about and he did. Bushie and Kerry would have been far happier to not have the suject come up!

I hope this makes a few people think!

Kerry actually offered a constructive critique of globalization, even from a free enterprise, conservative viewpoint - that we're using tax dolars to subsidize it. Bush by contrast just brought up that empty "education button" once again.

Also Kerry may have openly used the word amnesty, but I also heard him say we ought to crack down on hiring of illegals, something Bush did not and never has said.

I'd have to say really on immigration, though they're not really too far apart, what I heard Kerry say tonight was better than what Bush said, certainly better than what he's done. Not that I really believe he'll do them if elected. But it just shows to me that really no one can be worse on immigration than Bush.

One question was given on immigration to "prove" that there's no conspiracy to to ignore the American people. Imagine if they went through three debates (four with the VPs) without one of the biggest grassroots issues being mentioned even once.

Yup.
