There is a strange and growing phenomenon among Republicans in Presidential politics, namely, white Europeans sporting bumper stickers, signs, and other campaign promotions in Spanish. In lily-white GOP campaign rallies in Midwest areas that are almost completely populated by people of German and Scandanavian extraction, I see these people of Northern European descent holding up signs that read "Viva Bush". Today I saw a typical Republican white suburban mom with a "George Bush para Presidente" bumper sticker on her SUV. Clearly she and her white kids were not hispanic.
I think we know the rationale. The GOP faithful think they will win over enough hispanics to win elections and keep Republicanism dominant. Apparently conservatism has been reduced to being able to drive a SUV, worshiping the U.S. military, listening to Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Laura Ingraham pontificate about how evil and stupid liberals are and why it is good the top 1% richest get a huge tax cut, and supporting the use of the blood and treasure of America, whatever the cost, to support the security of a post-Catskills summer camp, psuedo-country in the Middle East.
