For those who might be interested.....
I just got this CD and it's unbelievably heavy, very progressive yet still punk rock. Very melodic. A few tunes lean more towards pop, yet even those tunes are great. It's being reviewed as a "rock opera". The biggest differences I find is that Green Day has gone political. Billie Joe Armstrong had voted for Nader in 2000 and I guess the regime of George W Bush has been too much for him. Like it is for us. Green Day might've been washed up after their last lackluster CD "Warning" but I declare that this band has kicked it up a notch and are calling out the American Idiots. Great concept CD. A++
Some lyrics:
"American Idiot"
Don't wanna be an American idiot. Don't want a nation that's under the new media. And can you hear the sound of hysteria? The subliminal mindf*ck America.
Welcome to a new kind of tension. All across the alien nation. Everything isn't meant to be okay. Television dreams of tomorrow. We're not the ones who're meant to follow. Convincing them to walk you.
Well maybe I'm the faggot America. I'm not a part of a redneck agenda. Now everybody do the propaganda. And sing along in the age of paranoia.
Welcome to a new kind of tension. All across the alien nation. Everything isn't meant to be okay. Television dreams of tomorrow. We're not the ones who're meant to follow. Convincing them to walk you.
Don't wanna be an American idiot. One nation controlled by the media. Information nation of hysteria. It's going out to idiot America.
Welcome to a new kind of tension.
"HOLIDAY"
Hear the sound of the falling rain
Coming down like an Armageddon plague (Hey!)
The shame, the ones who die without a name
There's a song sounding out of key
To a hymn called Faith and Misery (Hey!)
A plead, the company lost the war today
I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
On holiday
There's a drum pounding out of time
Another protestor has crossed the line (Hey!)
To find the money's on the other side
Can I get another Amen (Amen) There's a flag wrapped around the score of men (Hey) A gag, A plastic bag on a monument
I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
On holiday
"The representative from California has the floor"
Zeig heil to the president gasbag
Bombs away is your punishment
Pulverize the Eiffel tower
and criticize the government
Bang bang goes the broken glass man
Kill all the fags that don't agree
Triumph by fires, sinning buyers
I found a way that's meant for me
Check out--- check out ____ holiday
I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies This is the dawning of the rest of our lives I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
This is our lives on holiday

Lead singer/guitarist is a homo, hence the raging anger and bitterness at the world.

I saw a documentary or something that reported he had done some experimenting in the past or had an "ambiguous" sexual background, etc.
But you're right in that these days it seems homos are everywhere. Yuck.

Tex, you only have to check the history of the Roman Empire to see how widespread this abomination can get in multicultural, collapsing pagan empires.
You guys in America better get ready for some rough ride in the coming decades. It's going to get a lot more worse before it gets any better.
Keep the spirits!

The way I interpret this verse (and basically the whole song) is that he's saying "if you're not with the warmongers and marching lockstep with Fox News, you're considered a faggot by the government & media".
Yes, the homo plague is, to me, the primary indication of the coming devastating collapse to America. That and the growing weakness within the church itself are, to understate it, quite ominous.
I guess even people like Green Day are catching on to it.

Good review. In my view, the only punk thing one can do these days is to buy classical music.
I went around mumbling "Christ - Rob Halford's a fag...." for a solid week.
It never occurred to me that he was anything but, having read the lyrics to "Hot Rockin'" a few times.
I think metal music, and rock in general, attract a fair number of homosexuals.
Most homosexuals of the older school, the kind we used to call "bachelors," don't bother me. They do their thing out of sight and don't breed. The new school of pervert does bother me, and I think both homo and hetero versions need a forehead shot on sight.

But dance/house/techno and show tunes attract hordes of more homos than rock music. Depends on the rock band. You'll see a million more fudgepackers at a Pet Shop Boys concert than a Green Day show.

Imagine a show headlined by Erasure, Bronski Beat and the Communards.
Oh my.

Erasure's queerer than a three-dollar bill, but I like their sound. I also think Green Day has a good sound. The fake British twangs, the make-up, etc. is pretty gay, but it has anthemic, almost martial appeal. I've heard their "American Idiot" lyrics, and they are to me typically misplaced anger at the system, i.e., if you're against Bush, your only alternative is Kerry. I grew up in a place where reading books would get you called a "faggot," so I can sympathize a little. Where's the hard right subservise rock band?
I listened to a lot of punk in my day, from Dead Kennedys to Black Flag to Minor Threat. Black Flag sang "White Minority" (pre-Rollins) and Minor Threat sang "Guilty of Being White." That planted some seeds.
Tex, you only have to check the history of the Roman Empire to see how widespread this abomination can get in multicultural, collapsing pagan empires.
The operative word here is multicultural, and not 'pagan', wtftm. When the Romans were intolerant worshippers of Jupiter and Mars the few faggots in Rome were made quick work of (something along the lines of tying them in bags with a toad, a viper, and a pig and then throwing them off a steep enbankment into the Tiber). It was only when Rome became degenerate and decadent and started tolerating bizarre alien cults like, oh, say CHRISTIANITY, that they found themselves awash in butt piracy.
BTW, I am not trying to infer a post hoc, propter hoc conclusion, as you invariably do in your silly anti-'pagan' ramblings. Just letting you know that certain things cut both ways, pal.
