To my observations, and I don't know about the rest of the "civilized" world, but here in the States there has been a paucity of Media coverage of any Olympic events that involved Israelis. Concurrently, there has been a steady "under-drone" by the Olympics telecasters, not speaking directly about the wars, but sort of "propagandizing" the official line of the Bush Administration with regard to how the peoples of other nations "appreciate our efforts" in liberating and democracizing the formerly oppressed peoples of Iraq and Afghanistan, "making it possible" for some Afghani female athletes to "at last" participate in the Olympics, and for Iraq to "fearlessly" field its best and brightest athletes (without the likelihood of persecution if they fail to win?).

The Olympics tradition of suspending wars is being given "tacit and silent lip-service," by reducing the amount of "Middle-East coverage" in the Mass Media, while the games themselves are being covered in more length and depth than ever before, and with immediate re-broadcasts of the days' events following the ends of the days' events (but with the appearance that Israel isn't even represented).

As to the hype involving Bush's possible visit to Athens, there might be more to this than meets the eye. As only a "speculative scenario," it would seem the best possible solution to the growing problem of Israel wishing to and going to switch its support from Bush to Kerry, and as to Dubya's "place in history," were Bush to be assassinated by "Muslim terrorists" sometime prior to the November elections. In practical political terms, the Republican Party would be far more pleased with a "dead Kennedy" figure than a "defeated Bush Senior" figure, and it now appears certain that Dubya has a zero chance for re-election even by "questionable" means.
