With 86 percent of the primary vote counted Thursday, write-in candidate Dennis Bertrand had just 1,554 votes compared to 7,671, or 83 percent, for James L. Hart, a believer in the discredited, phony science of eugenics.

There are numerous elections all over the country were one party always get 65% or more of the vote, so all viable candidates run in that parties primary regardless of what they believe. Often the other primary will only have have one person running uncontested. Many times the party will go out at recruit designated losers for these primaries, just so they can say that every vote was contested.

Hart ran in a lightly contested Republican primary for years. This year the usual winner had been called onto active duty and Hart ended up running uncontested!

Hart has been publishing Eugenics pamphlets and mailing them out for free for years and years.

The smear originated with AP reporter Woody Baird. YahooNews just ran what he wrote. Call his office in TN and see where he gets his info.
