Woman 'lied about swastika attack'

Tuesday, July 13, 2004 Posted: 1750 GMT (0150 HKT)

PARIS, France (Reuters) -- A French woman who alleged suffering an anti-Semitic attack that shocked France from President Jacques Chirac down told police on Tuesday she made up the incident, a judicial source said.

The 23-year-old woman and her male companion were detained after police called them in to discuss the alleged attack, in which she said six knife-wielding youths of Arab and African origin had daubed swastikas on her stomach on a Paris train.

"She admitted to inventing the whole thing," the judicial source said.

The woman, identified only as Marie L., had alleged the attackers wrongly thought she was a Jew and also toppled a stroller carrying her 13-month-old baby.

When news of Friday's alleged attack emerged, Chirac and other leading French politicians condemned it.

But anti-racism group Mrap criticised officials for being too quick to blame youths of Arab and African origin.

"(Mrap) strongly condemns the irresponsible comments of people who took advantage of this invention to once more use anti-Semitism as a tool against a specific group of people," it said in a statement.

Government spokesman Jean-Francois Cope told RTL radio a rising trend of anti-Semitic attacks was "a genuine evil" in France, even if the woman's case might not be real.

More racist and anti-Semitic acts occurred in France in the first half of 2004 than in all of 2003, official figures show.

A total of 135 anti-Jewish attacks were recorded in the first six months of this year compared to 127 in 2003, while there were 95 attacks on people of North African Arab or black African origin against 51 last year.

French media had cast doubt on the woman's allegation, saying she had filed six unfounded reports of attacks in the past five or six years.

The daily newspaper Le Figaro quoted an unidentified source close to the woman as saying she was a "mythomaniac."

It looks like most 'hate crimes' that receive national or international coverage are hoaxes.

This "anti-semitic" hoax attack is good news. People in France and the world over will become more de-sensitized to the daily cries of "anti-semitism" in the media and elswhere, especially after hearing about these types of hoax attacks which make international news. Imagine if the people knew the real truth!

The same thing that this "lady" did is the same thing that Herr Sharon is doing in Palestine, he is killing his own people with bombs and blaming the Palestinians in order to build more "protective" wall and steal more Palestinian land.

According to Netanyahu the wall is going around 80% Israelis and only 1% Palestinians,,,,,,only thing is, if this were to be true, those 80% Israelis are illegally where they are at.
