I know opinions are like, uh... well, opinons. But, maybe I can get some input here. I like the FAL type of rifle, but am thinking an M1A would be more like a hunting/survival rifle. Maybe, there'll be some 20 rnd mags available this fall. And, maybe wood will last longer than fiberglass.

Anyone have M1A stories, or beter yet...M1A vs. FAL stories/comparison.

All Old Right,

One does like the M14. I don't think 20 rnd mags are that hard to get I have seen a them for sale mail order. If you want an M14 get some 20 rnd mags. I think they run about $60 but the gun is over $1000 so 4 for $240 is a bit high, but still less than the gun.

But you can get an AR 15 kit for $400 and put it together youself with no ATF recorders and it is legal too. I know I am not a big fan of .223 but does get the job done most of the time..

big fan of the m1a here, but i wont sneeze on the fal either there are sales/specials from time to time where you can get usgi mags (dont bother with ANYTHING else) for $35 or so. you really dont need a bunch. 4 or 5 should do, even for more than one rifle. another source of mags are gunshows, every so often, there will be someone selling an assortment of usgi mags. beware of non-usgi mags, nothing but problems. trust me on that one.

the rifle is expensive, but the ballistics of that 308nato are just right for me. esp compared to 223 or 762x39. its accurate too, among the most accurate semi-autos out there.

its not perfect though. semi difficult(and expensive) to mount a scope, gas plug needs wrench/combo tool to take off, the the bolt needs grease instead of oil.

as for m1a vs fal....well thats a can of worms. ive owned both, but if i had to choose i think it would be the m1a

all old right, check your pm

The M1A1 is my favorite rifle but up here in the mountains is quality that counts and that's why I choose the Remington 700 30-06.

I can hit a target at 700 yards with no problem and 2 out of 3 at 1,000 yards.

A few days ago I fired the M80A1 50 caliber,,,,,,what a honey, if you can see it you can hit it with that.

I am working now on a gyro that you can attack to the front and real which is connected to the trigger, once you have your target you touch the trigger and the gyro activates.

I am very happy with the initial results and it will create what I call "impossible shots". The gyro is working with a 80% power wich means that you are still able to move the rifle right or left but is hard to do.
