Cannibal case to be German movie By Ray Furlong BBC correspondent in Berlin

Armin Meiwes Meiwes was jailed for eight-and-a-half years One of Germany's most infamous criminal cases ever, in which a man killed and ate another man who had volunteered for his fate, is to be dramatised in film.

The case of the killer, Armin Meiwes, continues to both shock and fascinate Germans, months after he was jailed.

Now Rosa von Praunheim, among Germany's most controversial gay directors, has received 20,000 euros (£13,000) of public money to make the film.

The move has sparked outrage from some conservative politicians.

Meiwes, a middle-aged computer technician, killed and ate a man after posting an advert on the internet asking for a willing victim.

'Worth the money'

Latvian-born Rosa von Praunheim has made a career with provocative films mixing homosexuality, politics, and social comment.

He says he has been interested in the subject of cannibalism for 20 years and his CV includes one previous film on the subject - a comedy with the improbable title: "Can I be your Bratwurst, please?"

Filming is not due to start until December.

But some politicians have already expressed their anger about the plans to dramatise the story.

There is particular anger that the film has received the public money from the North Rhine-Westphalia film institute.

The institute says any film from Rosa von Praunheim is worth the money.

Said two friendly cannibals, one to another: "Would you eat 'me'?"

"Yes," the honest cannibal replied. "Would you eat me," he added?

"No," said the dishonest cannibal, "you're not to my tastes."

"What about with the proper seasoning, and the best of chefs," said the honest cannibal. "Would you then?"

"Yes," said the dishonest cannibal, being more honest... "then I suppose I would."

"We all eat one another, in one way or another, don't we," asked the honest cannibal?

"Well, that I can agree on," said the now more candid cannibal.

Moral of the story-?- All roads, lead to Rome. Perhaps we all should attempt to become Catholics, or at least Christians? What's to lose?

"Yeah," said a third, at least religious cannibal. "Let's just eat one another metaphorically... it's an improvement, and see what we can become after that?"

"Well, then we'd be Western Civilization, approximately," said a fourth cannibal, "but, what about our 'identity'."

"Yeah, we need our identity for politics in Western Civilization," said a fifth cannibal.

Said a wise seventh cannibal, "Let's just keep eating one another, and we can get funds from the West to help us be better."

What happened to the sixth cannibal?

BURP... He emigrated to Germany, but made it in pictures.
