The American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday in Richmond challenging the constitutionality of a new state law that prohibits juveniles from attending nudist camps without their parents or legal guardians. The law, passed this year by the General Assembly, will take effect Thursday.
"Government should not interfere with how parents raise their children," said Rebecca Glenberg, ACLU's legal director. "This is a law based on prejudice and misunderstanding."
The ACLU will seek a preliminary injunction from the court to prevent the state from blocking a juvenile camp planned in July at White Tail Park, a nudist resort in Ivor, which is in Southampton County just over the Isle of Wight County line.
Del. John S. "Jack" Reid, R-Henrico, introduced a bill earlier this year, saying he received a flood of calls about teenagers attending the camp last year without parental supervision.
Owners of White Tail Park, one of three nude teen camps nationwide, would not comment.
According to an ACLU statement, the law violates the constitutional rights of privacy and association, and the right of parents to "direct the upbringing of their children."

It is good to see the ACLU standing up for freedom of association. Now if they will just help me open a bar that is open only to the white public....
That would of course be very close to when hell doth get a bit chilly.

How can anyone think it is a good idea to send your teenage daughter to hang out in the woods naked with a bunch of hormone-addled naked teenage boys? Or for that matter, how can anyone think it is a good idea to send your 14-year-old son to hang out naked in the woods with a naked adult male camp counselor?
This is just nuts.

I think some of the posters here are saying more about themselves than they are about children in nudist resorts. In case anybody is interested in listening to reality instead of hystrionics, I would point out to you that nudism has traditionally been a family affair. To the best of my recollection, there has never been a reported case of inappropriate sexual activity in a nudist camp that has been able to stand even the mildest scrutiny. As for nude male adolescents in the presence of nude adult counsellors, I would remind you that this happens on regular basis in primitive societies where people are always nude!

I don't see that the ACLU has a constitional leg to stand on. Being nude is not speech. Freedom of association doesn't mean freedom to be naked. Our courts allow a great deal of government intrusion into anything open to the public when it comes to imposing Political Correctness. Of course, a liberal judge wouldn't bother himself with these details.
Being nude is still allowed, the children just have to have their parents with them. This looks like another attempt to obliterate the concept of age of consent.

This strikes me as what the underground "patriot" talk show host Alex Jones might call a "distractor issue." Here we are in the midst of a foolish imperial war, and suffering an unprecedented invasion of Third World immigrants, and battles rage in our halls of government over permission slips for kids attending nudist camps.
Both sides, ACLU and "outraged 'Moral Majority," are absolutely ridiculous--for starters, how common is it that anyone young or old goes to nudist camp? I wouldn't even know how to find one, and I suspect most people fall into my camp (no pun intended, of course). Are they even in the phone book? This is all just for show...it's not a "major public issue."
