This bozo is a disgrace beyond all reason, no matter who is targets for smearing happen to be. His ignorance is outstanding. His metaphors are skewed. O'Reilly should be banned from any mass media outlet. Fox News should be mocked into oblivion.

O'Reilly compared Moore, Franken to Goebbels; compared Hollywood celebs to Nazi faithful

One week after right-wing radio host Michael Savage compared progressive financier, philanthropist, and political activist George Soros to Hitler's minister of propaganda, Joseph Goebbels, TV and radio host Bill O'Reilly compared both author/documentarian Michael Moore and radio host Al Franken to Goebbels. O'Reilly also likened a group of Hollywood celebrities who attended a recent premier of Moore's new film, Fahrenheit 9/11, to the Nazi faithful. In the process, O'Reilly falsely accused Franken of lying.

From the June 10 broadcast of The Radio Factor with Bill O'Reilly:

O'REILLY: Joseph Goebbels was the Minister of Propaganda for the Nazi regime and whose very famous quote was, "If you tell a lie long enough, it becomes the truth." All right? "If you tell a lie long enough, it becomes the truth."

And that's what Stuart Smalley [O'Reilly regularly refers to Franken as Stuart Smalley, a character Franken created on Saturday Night Live], and Michael Moore and all of these guys do. They just run around.

O'Reilly then provided what he claimed to be an example of Franken's alleged propaganda; yet in the example O'Reilly provided, Franken was telling the truth:

O'REILLY: Stuart Smalley is actually telling people in the media that he's beating Rush Limbaugh in New York City on the radio.

I mean, it's -- those of us in the media who know -- all right -- is -- Stuart Smalley can -- why don't you just say you're 6'4"? [laughter] OK? I mean, that's how blatant a lie that is. It's just an absolute lie. And people just stare -- you just stare at that. And he runs around, saying it.

As Media Matters for America previously noted, on May 31, The New York Times reported that, among listeners ages 25 to 54, midday ratings for WLIB-AM in New York, which include three hours of Al Franken's radio program, The O'Franken Factor, have been higher than the midday ratings for WABC-AM, which include three hours of The Rush Limbaugh Show.

O'Reilly concluded by smearing Hollywood celebrities who attended the premiere of Fahrenheit 9/11 as equivalent to Goebbels's credulous followers:

O'REILLY: So who turns out for the screening of this movie [Fahrenheit 9/11] last night? You ready? Now, here are the celebrities that turn out. Here are the people who would turn out to see Josef Goebbels convince you that Poland invaded the Third Reich. It's the same thing, by the way. Propaganda is propaganda. OK?

Billy Crystal. Martin Sheen. Leonardo DiCaprio. Ellen DeGeneres. David Duchovny. Sharon Stone. Meg Ryan. Ashton Kutcher. Demi Moore. Norman Lear. Rob Reiner. Jodie Foster. Chris Rock. Larry David. Jack Black. Matthew Perry. Diane Lane.

On his FOX News Channel show that same day, O'Reilly continued the Nazi analogy by comparing Moore to infamous Nazi-propaganda filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl.

From the June 10 edition of FOX News Channel's The O'Reilly Factor:

O'REILLY: No, no, no, but I think it's [the effort by some Hollywood celebrities to help defeat President George W. Bush] more organized than ever before and I think they [anti-Bush Hollywood celebrities] have more access to the media than ever before because the celebrity media, as I said, is so profitable and pervasive. So now it becomes a Leni Riefenstahl Third Reich propaganda proposition where what they say and do is put in everybody's face.

All of this is an insult to the memory of Dr. Goebbels by people who know nothing about him.

O'Reilly said today that he finally went and saw Moore's movie because his listeners demanded it.

Anyone who compares today's civilians to those synonymous with Nazi Germany are following Jewish conventional wisdom. It is not so much about getting brownie points from Almighty Shmuel, but rather reinforcing the idea that Nazi Germany is the eternal hell and all of its benefactors are Lucifer's children. As long as commentators like O'Reilly continue to use this propagandaist weapon, their bodies are made up of nothing but Scheisse.

Robbie and Sert, O'Reilly would have to give up his job and livelihood if he only knew half of what Goebbels knew to be true. To use this man's name so mistakenly is quite effrayant.

Xmetal,

O'Reilly claims to be a historian. If he were worth a damn he'd know that Goebbels was making reference to the Jews and their propaganda. Anyone who doesn't understand that should consider all the lies and halftruths since 9/11 to understand what happen before WWII and during it. I don't consider Goebbels to be anymore dishonest than the Office of War Information that the late Sen. Alan Cranston worked for. I'd go so far to say that I would believe Goebbels before I would the O.W.I. Here's something for O'Reilly to consider about Cranston when it comes to lying.

As an aside, Cranston violated the copyright to Mein Kampf back in the '30s during his communist days and was sued by Hitler. Hitler won the lawsuit.

Goebbels never said anything of the kind; Hitler wrote that in Mein Kampf. And he was talking about the tactics used by the Jews in their media. The fact that most people believe Hitler made that remark (O'Reilly apparently doesn't rate as high as the average Boobus Americanus in historical knowledge) as a way of describing his own tactics, rather than those of the Jews, is proof positive that Hitler was right; the Big Lie works, as 60 years of twisting the meaning of Hitler's words has been nearly 100% effective in attatching a false meaning to them.

If you don't adore Ariel Sharon, you're a Nazi now. It wasn't like that before 9/11, so apparently everything really HAS changed since then. Since those changes aren't acceptable, I guess we'll just have to make some of our own.

I like your quote by George McGovern. Its sort of emblematic of the way in which the traditional distinctions between "left" and "right" no longer matter very much. You're either with Shecky or you're against him, and your other views don't count. Those who are against him need to put aside their myriad differences and work to oust his tribe from power. McGovern is something of an anti-Zionist himself these days, by the way.

LOL.

Actually, it's a good thing they're doing this. The neo-Kahns have so abused the term "Nazi" in service to whatever short-term obective they had that it really lost its meaning.

It just can't shock anymore. At some point, folks will start saying "well, if so-and-so is a Nazi, then maybe the Nazis weren't so bad."

As in the tale of the frog and the scorpion, they really just can't help themselves.

Excellent point. Perfectly stated and perfectly true.

Lately, this most vile individual O'Reilly, who so easily condemns others as "nazis" has been calling for Muslim genocide on his nightly shows. The United States is caught in a false dichotomy, where we're told on a DAILY basis that "nazis" were the most evil ethnic cleansers to ever exist in humanity, yet, the Vipers in Washington, District of Criminals, are just itching to cleanse the Middle East of Muslims. They're using stooges like O'Reilly to rile up the Fox masses to accept this upcoming atrocity. I hope and pray they all end up in Hell.

You mean Nazitm?

:hitler:

It is just I see Moore as much more of a marxist than a "nazi" and it bugs me that so many of the sheep don't see this and are so eager to swallow whatever O'Rielly feeds them.

The media is the ultimate snake charmer.

O'REILLY: Joseph Goebbels was the Minister of Propaganda for the Nazi regime and whose very famous quote was, "If you tell a lie long enough, it becomes the truth."

As Hitler observed in Mein Kampf, Jews invented in Big Lie technique.

That is one reason Schopenhauer called the Jew the Great Master of the Lie.

O'Reilly's pig ignorance really is laughable.

Yet he has no shortage of drone followers.

Bruce,

Wake up my friend.

Foxnews is controlled by Rupert Murdoch -- A Jew.

Jews pushed Marxism more than anyone, and Karl Marx himself was a Jew.

Jews gave us Marxism. That's why Marxist is not a pejorative.

BillyO is a useful idiot. Anyone who addresses the ME as often as he does and never mentions Israel and imperialism in the same sentence, is not being honest. He's making big, big bucks now and he's not about to throw it all away by being a muckraker.

He seems to invest in some rather stupid causes, like boycotting French products. Truth is, most of what's imported from France changes its lineage as it passes through customs and winds up with a different name and distribution point, so it's impossible for the ordinary consumer to make the distinction between Frog and anything else. But because he shoots from the hip a lot, he thinks he's got the perfect solution and has made a significant difference. Never works out that way. In fact, it's US exports that have taken a real hit because many Europeans don't want to buy American due directly to their opposition to this war.

When the Red Cross wasn't passing through all the donations to the 9-11 families as quickly and completely as he wanted, he got on their case big time. Finally, the embarrassed Red Cross admitted that they held back millions so that they might have reserves for other disasters. But due to BillyO's one man crusade to get them to hand over the dough, individual familes or just individuals raked in millions of tax free dollars from the Red Cross. In retrospect, that was a stupid, ill-advised idea to force upon the Red Cross. Some of it should have been set aside to help other people caught in natural disasters. Again, he shot from the hip, made himself out to be some kind of Robin Hood and forced the implementation of a horribly distorted policy that set a precedent that I found personally distasteful.

I'd have more respect for him if he tackled some of the really sensitive issues like black on white crime and Jewish influence in this country and how it's achieved. I won't hold my breath.
