.50 BMG Rifles any thought or ideas?

Buying them? Shooting them? Are they worth it? Are they good for anything?

Making them at home?

.50 BMG Ar-15 uppers, are they any good?

I've heard good stuff about McMillian. Try this link for info. http://www.biggerhammer.net/barrett/faq.html I don't see a lot of practical use for the price. That money could go towards all kinds of survival preps and gear. I'd like to go where I could rent some time on one, some day. As far as the AR uppers, I don't get firing a .50 cal shell with only an AR lower keeping the two halves together. If I went for it...McMillian or Barret semi.

I wouldn't want to lug one, but they could be real useful when the SHTF. Think sitting several klicks off from an airbase, or fuel/ammo dump...

If someone has a lot of money to waste, I would say get the Barrett.

But if you want something a bit cheaper the Ferret50 looks like it might be worth a look. Still not cheap but no more than an AR-10 and the up market FN FALs. And no ATF paper work.

Ferret50

Our basic rifles are perfect for entry level or casual shooters. Available with either standard or extended upper receivers built on our F-50/Multi-caliber steel lower; your choice of chrome-moly barrels in 18" 29" or 36", or stainless steel barrels in 29" or 36". Barrels are made by Lothar Walther with a 1:15 right hand twist and hybrid-match chamber that will accepts BOTH military surplus and match grade ammo. Basic rifles come complete with bipod, flat scope rail, and Fish Gill muzzle brake.

Our upper receivers are designed for converting your AR series rifle to 50BMG. These same uppers are used in our rifle designs. Many of our customers who are just entering the 50BMG shooting sports start with these uppers that they put on their AR15. This allows them the flexability to modify their 50BMG rifle with our F-50 lowers, Supermatch barrels and other options as they choose.

If you can afford to drop several thousand on a Barrett, then I want to come play too! A better use of the money for those on a budget might be to buy shiny stuff for a rainy day (gold/silver) and maybe another case of 308 nato.

I was going to get me one of those animals but because I live in the woods the longest open distance here at home is about 150 feet therefore the only use for a .50 would be to shoot down helicopters, my Remington 30-06 is all I need......besides the mini 14, Glock 22 and other goodies

QUOTE]

Well sir, if the proverbial balloon should go up and the proverbial feces impacts upon said fan, they would be quite useful in taking out vehicles full of hostiles.

Punching a half inch hole through the engine block of the lead vehicle in a group thereof would have the effect of delaying the following vehicles whilst one took care of them with smaller caliber weapons.
