From USA Today:
Bird also says that when he was playing he "really got irritated" when a white player guarded him. "I still don't understand why," he says. "I didn't care who guarded me ââ¬â red, yellow, black. I just didn't want a white guy guarding me, because it's disrespect to my game.

It's my undertsanding that Bird's family was kind of a trashy lot, so that may be one of the things that contributed to his Negro worship. Still, he surely can afford an in-depth genealogical search, maybe find something in his family's history that will give him a little racial pride. Or maybe he already has and there's just nothing there.

That's pretty sad. Makes me think less of Larry Bird. I know alot of blacks actually already liked and respected Larry Bird, so for him to come out and say this shite is quite ridiculous, as it's not winning over anybody. I used to really like Larry Bird, but now...... Bird sucks.

In Bird's heyday, the talent pool among white players in the league was relatively shallow. Now that very good white players are being recruited from Europe, Argentina, etc., this is no longer the case.
Face it...a lot of the white players in the 80's were uncoordinated, nameless defensive hacks.
At any rate, I don't think he's a self-hating white. On the contrary, if you remember, he's shown considerable deference to white players like Detlef Schrempf, Chris Mullin, and Kevin McHale. My take is is that when he coached the Pacers, he actually had more hope in Mullin and Croshere than they deserved.
Anyway, this is the first of anything approaching disrepect to white players that I've ever heard him say. Maybe he felt he had to say it, knowing the media, to counterbalance his un-PC observation that good white players put white butts in the seats.

His attitude in the interview , the segment that I saw, was condescending and smartassed. Yes, he wants White players, but not because they deserve a shot, it's because he wants to make sure those clueless White fans keep paying the bills. That's just as insulting to Whites as his contempt for White players. I've never followed basketball, or Larry Bird, but what I saw was a sneaky White trash punk, and I think my first impression is correct. Is this cowardly SOB so out of it that he's unaware of what would happen to any White personality who made the same comments about colored players? I doubt it. If he would have said that there were no White players who could keep up with him when he was playing, fine, but his statement that he was insulted when the other team put a White player in against him, when he clearly had no problems with an opposing team putting an inferior black player in against him, is evidence of a diseased mind.

I bet a lot of the black players feel like they're being treated as chumps if a white guy is guarding them.

Imagine Bob Novak on Crossfire saying that he hates it when they bring blacks in to take the opposition viewpoint, because it's an insult to his debating skills. Instant career suicide.

He should be fortunate he got the kind of exposure and glory he received in his day...White players at that time were exactly what Mofo described them as. Now that White players from Europe are a presence in the NBA, the mythical Negro-rooted sport can't cope with diversity of the other kind and it takes ex-White athletes (think Paul Hornung) to show what absolute jagoffs they are.

So the pampered prima-donna thought it was "disrespect to my game" to be guarded by a white player.
That did not stop him from disrespecting his bank account by taking a paycheck that was provided by (brain-dead) white fans.
What a two faced piece of garbage. May the fleas of 10,000 camels infest his scrotum.

:-)
But, you know, we all to have to remember that blacks need to be told they are good at something. That way you can say things like, 'Well, of course I don't believe that whites are superior to blacks. I am just say that, on average, white have more powerful and more creative intellects. And why we are generally a physically capable race, it has to be noted that blacks are better at basketball. And running fast.
That's all I meant.'

Last night, ESPN's "Outside The Lines" did a show titled "Why White Americans Are Not Excelling In Basketball". Thanks, Larry. :dung:
I wonder if they'll ever do a show about the rise of the White European basketball player. Knowing them, they'd have some black educator posing as a sports guru (think Harry Edwards of the S.F. 49ers) saying that they were brought in to hose down the black athlete and leash the snarling dogs at them.
