Ed, I've been to Bennington, VT, since it's very close to the Mass. border, when I vacationed in the Berkshires one summer. Bennington is a really nice town with a couple of great museums and a state park (i can't remember it's name) which was great for hiking. I did notice lots of Deadheads though, but I like the Dead, so.......

William Dudley Pelley, the mysterious WN leader of the Silvershirts during the 1930s, lived in Vermont and owned and operated the Bennington Banner newspaper back in the 19 teens. His popular novels from before his political activism are all set in fictional "Paris, VT" which is based in part on Bennington.

You can buy most of them pretty cheap through www.bookfinder.com

Search author William Dudley Pelley...

The Paris, Vermont novels are:

The Greater Glory Drag The Fog Golden Rubbish

All set around 1900 with good humour and high melodrama. It was these books (along with his popular magazine stories) that won him a contract in Hollywood during the silent era writing for the likes of Lon Chaney.

Yep, I've been to Bennington...
