Sorry to keep on with this. But, I carefully installed the new starter and checked, then rechecked all connections. The battery seems to have good juice. Maybe it was me knowing it wasn't going to be that easy...but I turned the key, got a quick electronic think(like it had power but no crank), then no juice at all. If I go back to the battery and twist the connections, the juice comes back on. I turn the key, and it does it again. Any chance this indicated that the starter is bad? I can't understand. I

Before I installed the new starter, it had that electronic thunk but wouldn't crank. I know I'll get a tow truck in for this thing and it'll be something simple. The battery is supposed to have until Jan 06.

I think your battery is bad, AOR. I've had those same issues on my old Toyota 4 banger and 9 times out of 10 it was the battery, despite however long it was supposed to last. In any starting issue, that's the first thing to try since it's the cheapest, imo.

Thanks TD. The up side is I found a good parts place. It's plain to see that I am no mechanic. I enjoy working on stuff, but was always discouraged by family...long, long story.

Most auto parts places will test the battery under load for free. Also check the battery terminal connections for corrosion and thread condition. Clean or replace them as neccessary.

My S10 4Cy had a similar problem. All the accessories would power up but the solenoid wouldn't even click. It turned out to be the threads on one of the connectors was buggered and couldn't make good contact.
