Thanks guys. I think this private mod forum will give us a bit more freedom to discuss some of the issues that arise as we seek to tighten up the commentary here.
I'll give the permission settings another check, but I'm pretty well certain this is only visible to the listed mods in the 'View Forum Leaders' link at the bottom of the board.
No rules in here so put up whatever is on your heart.

I have two IP addys in the blocked list from the various identities assumed by the Raina troll. He/she/it seemed very computer savvy though, so I'm sure they know how to get around IP blocks.
I'm willing to open it back up if y'all will commit to watching things a bit closer for a while. I just learned this morning that a close uncle of mine has died and I will be traveling to Louisiana this Sunday through Monday night.
I want to stress that we need to keep all non-productive, non-intelligent posts off the board for now. Address members privately first. Most of the time they react positively when you handle it honestly and professionally. The trolls don't though.

This is just one suggestion for what its worth. One thing we could do would be to go back to the old closed Liberty Forum, where membership is by invite only. Or at least require someone from the forum to sponsor and monitor them.

My condolences as well Tex, and I agree with AY on board memberships.
I will try to step back from my role as member and try to perform more of your calming, professional moderating approach Tex. If I'm trying to remain a little more above the fray (or at least not locked in it)while Tex is gone, it might help if some of you all to join in. Its a little difficult to remain non-partisan when you are being repeatedly personally attacked. Thus any of you that wish to join in might wish give your opinion on this thread

It appears to me that madrussian and Il Ragno just have some deep and intractable differences with the direction we're trying to take this board. Probably a minority of the membership feels the really deep orthodox religious convictions that I and Tex do, but these two want to equate both of us to Walter, and I think would rather see the board go down that have it go on a direction we're comfortable with (which involves rather frank criticism of the excesses of WN like NS).
I would like to build a conscensus of some sort of what we should do here. IR and MR are clearly are most active posters recently, and as past events have shown (Trisk) such can definitely start to dominate and influence the board, often adversely.

I think that it is a good idea to temporarily suspend the registration of new members until this is sorted out. Iââ¬â¢m loath to do this because of some of the things I have seen on other boards but will, if it helps us here keep out the trolls. I think that one thing you might do is to send new members your forum rules and require them to acknowledge them. I think that you might include something there to inform them that this isnââ¬â¢t a Nazi board and trash like ââ¬ÅAdolph Hitler, Christianââ¬Â, for example, wonââ¬â¢t be tolerated. Most of those people are every bit as bad as the ââ¬Åfreeperââ¬Â Zionists. In fact, they are a mirror of them, in my opinion. I think you could do the same with the militant atheists as well. (I can write this for you know my views on religion) Usually, I note, they are one and the same.
In regard to the new moderators (Greeting, guys!) I suggest that they being given another account in addition to the one they post under so as to be more like Raskolnikov. That might make things easier and one could deal with those who engage in personal insults under their standard names.
We will probably lose some folks over this, but quality is a lot more important than quanity. Most of those who leave contribute more problems than they do anything worthwhile.
