Is there such a thing as a group or organization that tries to convince people to simply boycott television, as in throwing it out with the trash once and for all?
I know a religious fraternity that forbids its members from ever watching television, and encourages the general public to do the same; but they aren't backed by any major public figure.
What if Mel Gibson were to come out and say, "I don't need any of the cr*p on TV and neither does any serious Christian. Toss it out."
How would people respond?

The John Birch Society warns about televitz:

At the very least it might be prudent for paleos to cancel their cable/satellite subscriptions so they aren't financing their own destruction.

Canceling cable should suffice. How would you watch "Der Ewige Jude" and "Triumph des Willens" otherwise? A PC, yeah, but what about living room entertainment? :D

You can find a lot of good anti-television information if you do some googling. I saw the results of some experiements that had been done in which they looked at brainwave scans of people who were watching television. It turns out that tv puts you into an actual trancelike state, in which your brain is almost shut down, and in which you are extremely susceptible to suggestion. Your brain is more active when you are sitting alone, in the dark, staring at the floor.

Thanks, F. But what I'm hoping for is a defenestrate TV type of group.

Actually, the more concentrated one on a particular task is, the more the areas of the brain not needed get inactive. When one is doing nothing, the whole brain lights up in activity. That's why the feeling of a good job done leaves you with more strength than a period of anxiety-causing inactivity.
