...the proposed erection of a statue of famed abolitionist Frederick Douglass could have been voted for almost anywhere else in the county seat of Easton, rather than the courthouse lawn.

...That made no apparent difference to those whose main concern appears to erect that statue of Douglass next to the statue of a young flag-bearing soldier, which is a monument dedicated to "The Talbot Boys" who fought and died in the Confederate Army.

The Eastern Shore is a strange place. I've met some great Southerners there, but have also met some natives who totally deny their Southern heritage. It's like a place suspended in air.

BTW, I think Easton was the town where, back in the 60s, H. Rap Brown insited the negros to burn down about half the downtown area. He is serving a life sentence for killing a Fulton County cop that was trying to serve a warrant on him a few years ago.
