NAACP leaders stunned by remarks of prominent comedian**

In the presence of NAACP President Kweisi Mfume and other African-American leaders, comedian Bill Cosby took aim at blacks who don't take responsibility for their economic status, blame police for incarcerations and teach their kids poor speaking habits.
Cosby made his remarks at a Constitution Hall event in Washington Monday night commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Brown vs. Board of Education decision that paved the way for integrated schools, reported Richard Leiby in his Reliable Source column for the Washington Post.
Leiby said Cosby's remarks were met with "astonishment, laughter and applause."
When Cosby finally concluded, Leiby said, Mfume, Howard University President H. Patrick Swygert and NAACP legal defense fund head Theodore Shaw came to the podium looking "stone-faced."
Shaw told the crowd most people on welfare are not African American. He insisted many of the problems his organization addresses among blacks are not self-inflicted.
Cosby said, according to Leiby: "Ladies and gentlemen, the lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal. These people are not parenting. They are buying things for kids ââ¬â $500 sneakers for what? And won't spend $200 for 'Hooked on Phonics.'
He added: "They're standing on the corner and they can't speak English. I can't even talk the way these people talk: 'Why you ain't,' 'Where you is' ... And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk. And then I heard the father talk. ... Everybody knows it's important to speak English except these knuckleheads. ... You can't be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth!"
The Post said Cosby also targeted imprisoned blacks.
"These are not political criminals," he said. "These are people going around stealing Coca-Cola. People getting shot in the back of the head over a piece of pound cake and then we run out and we are outraged, [saying] 'The cops shouldn't have shot him.' What the hell was he doing with the pound cake in his hand?"

Good for Mr. Cosby.
I used to listen to his comedy records as a kid. Nearly peed my pants a few times. Especially the one about how he and his brother would watch horror movies. One of the great comedic talents of our time.
I recall that he got snookered into the Tawana Brawley hoax - offerred a big reward, if I recall correctly. Human, all to human. Maybe that was one of the events that got him thinking.

Cosby annoys me.
Not as much as Bellafonte, but almost as much.
But he is a good example of what the segregated northern public schools, pre Brown V Board, produced as opposed to what they turn out 50 years later. I think he was a Philadelphia kid, maybe Overbrook High where Chamberlain went, but I could be wrong.
He's got big bucks but if he hadn't flopped so badly with You Bet Your Life he'd be one of the wealthiest men in the country. Egomaniac that he is, he produced YBYL fully expecting it to be a huge success that would net him upwards of 500 million during it's long long life. Instead, once the public saw what an insufferable condescending bore he really is, it quickly died.

Anyone whose child is killed deserves a break, but I do recall that Cosby joined with his wife in denouncing the "racism" that caused his son's killer to be so filled with hatred that he killed young Ennis for drug money.
Since that time, it came out that Mikail Markhasev was actually a Russian-Jewish immigrant and a member of the R-J mafia that is taking over LA. Not a peep from the Cosby's about that aspect.

I remember Cosby coming to the defense of the LA rioters a decade ago.
Everyone one of us, black or white, know that blacks are self-destructive. Should Cosby get praise for a moment of honesty? Jesse Jackson too, for when he said when he hears footsteps behind him and he turns around he's relieved to see whites instead of blacks.
When Cosby comes out in defense of marriage, man marries women and then have children, then I'll praise Cosby.
