Should there be a choice for "all of the above"?

I votees for 9mm only because it the most common, but I have to say one does like idea of .45 acp.

Same here, in a perfect world, I like the .45 ACP. But, the 9mm is effective enough and addresses issues of people not comfortable with firing a gun, women, weakened adults, or children who may have to defend themselves.

.45 ACP Vs. Wimpy 9mm

The problem with my favorite .45, the Kimber Pro-Carry II, is that it only carries 7 rounds. But statistically there are only 3 shots fired in a pistol fight so who needs a large mag? Only for the shooting range.

Whereas with the 9mm SIG P226-9-NAVY you've got a 10 round magazine and you can also get a pre-ban 12 round magazine.

The 9mm is better and cheaper for range shooting but for home protection I want bigger bullets. So I guess either Kimber Pro Carry II, SIG P-245, or Glock 21 which can carry 13 .45 rounds.

God bless America and Israel.

9mm is nicer to shoot, and in case of self defence it is enough efficient, if one uses proper ammo. Yes, an FMJ from 9mm isn't very effective compared to .45. But in all hand gun calibers shot placement is essential.

Personally I own an .22 High Standard, and won't need bigger. I like more from rifles. For homedfense I think best choice is 12gauge shotgun, even looking from it's barrel(s) will make invaders think again. It is more powerfull than any pistol and doesn't overpenetrate.

Personally I have rifle in ready to use at home and carry sometimes pistol in my suburban home area, because area is byt finnish standards 'bad', most criminals and immigrants live in here. And students like myself because of cheap rents.

Can an ordinary person get a carry permit in Finland?

Yes he/she cans.

Lawfull reasons for getting carry permits are hunting, reservist actions (nearly all finnish men are reservists), and shooting sports.

If citizen has no criminal record, getting permit to first gun (usually .22 or shotgun) is quite easy, after that getting permit to bigger guns is easier, rifles and revolvers are easier than pistols, cops has some kind of aversion against 9mm pistols, reservists get them easily.

Btw. people who have served in engineer corps get automatically explosives permit.

I got my permits for being active reservist, I have now two .22 handguns and 7.62 bolt action rifle, if my budget allows I'll buy semiautomatic at fall. Probably it'll be AK-variant, but maybe even M1-Garand, there is style in that rifle.
