No, says this columnist.

Chistian Zionism is dependent upon a dispensational eschatological doctrine. Since Roman Catholics are amillennial, this would seem to automatically negate the possibility of them being Zionists.
What this means, of course, is that Catholic Zionists like William F. Buckley, Joseph Farah, Andrew Sullivan etc. jumped aboard the pro-Israel bandwagon purely out of political expediency.

Farah is Catholic???? I could've sworn he was a dispensationalist....probably a Baptist or Hebrew Roots Messianic type. If he is Catholic, you'd never know it by his screeds.

EDIT: BTW I don't think he can be Catholic. I've read him plug the King James Version of the Bible. Very doubtful a Catholic would do that.

I was listening to the Albert Mohler radio program last night during the drive home and a guy called up and asked Mohler if he thought amillennialists were going to hell. Of course Mohler proclaimed himself a pre-millennialist since it was "the most scriptural understanding" of the various eschatological positions (didn't mention dispensationalist or not). To his credit I guess, Mohler didn't say that those who hold to the traditional, orthodox Christian position of amillennialism were going to hell, but rather just simply wrong and misguided.

I tell you, hearing that caller can make one want to join up with Zut Alors and just throw in the towel. Discouraging. The American, Christian Zionist pre-mil dispies are just so dadgum stiff-necked and arrogant. I admit I don't know how to crack that nut, but maybe that's the point in itself. We just need to proclaim the pure Gospel and have faith, letting the Spirit move where it chooses.

What's most foolish is that they seem to make their view of end-times prophecy--a complex Biblical subject to be sure--a requirement for salvation.

National Israel seems to have replaced Christ for many of them.

This couldn't be truer.

I don't have any problems with someone who is a Christian and a 'Zionist,' in the sense of someone who is happy to see the Jews move to the Israeli state, and live there. In that sense, I would be apporving of a 'Zionist Christian.' What is objectionable is the claim that support for Israel is somehow part of proper Christian belief; and the claim that Israel is deserving of Western aid and support. Perhaps these we can label as the views of the 'Christian Zionist,' for lack of a better label.

The specifically Catholic Zionist generally has a lot of hang ups about the Holocaust and past strong Catholic anti-Jewish sentiment. They perhaps seek to kosherize their interest in preserving white Catholic ethnicity, so as to avoid charges of racism and the like. It is sometimes a good strategy at the rhetorical level. How can one like Jews but be a racist? Outside of certain leftist circles, this question has some force. Perhaps it was psychologically necessary for America to go through a stage of philo-Semitism, so as to give Jews enough rope to hang themselves; and to make clear to everyone that, at present, most Jews are not really amenable to compromise. Instead, they pursue a strategy of endless victimization linked to endless demands to secure their 'safety,' most of which center on 'deconstructing,' neutering, or just plain eradicating the Nordic peoples.
