I wanted to share this exquisite gem of ignorance that I overheard while leaving the theatre from seeing "Matrix Revolutions" a couple of months ago. Now, for those of you who have not seen that movie (your life is no less complete for the omission, I can assure you), they try, even more than in the first two movies, to toss in some religious and even Christian symbolism, although most of it feels superficial. Anyway, upon leaving the theatre, I overheard two 16 or 17-year-old kids discussing the deeper meanings of the movie-- "Yeah, dude, there's all kinds of crazy symbolism in those movies. Like, apparently, Zion is some ancient medieval city and sh." This is what it's come to, folks. Zion is "apparently some ancient medieval city and sh." I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
