Got this from a fellow retired Captain: Ed - before I forget....
Last friday night five of us had dinner at the Outback near PHL. (I don't recommend ANY Outback food - it has the name but not the fame. My medium Ayers Rock Steak was a NY strip and bled all over the table...Its a good place for yuppies who think they are eating Australian - they're NOT!).
I was amused by Carole's Daughter's friend who is jewish. I met her last fall and she speaks fairly openly. She works for a hotel that does 'events'.... They USED to do Bar Mitzvahs, until the one she worked. 70 adults, 30 partially unsupervised little jewboys&girls. She took about ten minutes to describe the scene. The boys found an open window with a good drop on the outside, so they were scuttling out thru there at some danger to themselves for awhile. Little jewgirls got hot dancing and decided to pull off their black pantyhose - right on the dance floor. A coloring table was set up for entertainment - both sexes literally GROUND the crayons into every piece of furniture they dould find. The police finally had to be called, much to the chagrin of the few adults who had brought their own kids.... There were many other items of destruction so no more barmitzvahs there. Carole was hanging onto my knee hoping I would say nothing. I remained silent while she went on to ANOTHER bar mitzvah, again with unsupervised kids. This was at a classy aquarium combination place where they had penguins behind a high open barrier. Here the kids began throwing food and everything else to the penguins (which, as you can imagine, are very expensive zoo creatures!) until again the police had to be called.
As you have probably seen in all public places, there is nothing worse than an unsupervised (and sometimes supervised!) little jewkid. I have met only a handful here at the B&B (NOT their style because they can't brag about the money they spent on it!) but it was usually with regrets that I had them in the place at all. Had a rsv. called in a month ago from Mr. Cohen in New Orleans. Found out he worked for a 'lawsuit special' group. He was coming in two weeks, but as of today no deposit - his ass is cancelled! I like to get that check into the bank about ten days in advance and he doesn't know it yet, but he didn't make the cutttt. It will be a pleasantry for me to tell him that no deposit was received in time. All we have is words over the phone - I am not binding and neither is he....
Anyway, life goes on. Flew AA thru DFW to PDX to visit my little sister a few days ago. Excellent service on AA. Even got a sandwich wrap on one leg. Great times to fly - Palm Sunday and beginning of DST - first flight out. IMpossible to fill up! Midweek between Palm Sunday & Easter - lots of room always on early flights.
Take care, Ed.
