The US Supreme Court will rule on the phrase ââ¬Åunder Godââ¬Â in the Pledge of Allegiance. America has become a sad place that one cannot predict a certain outcome for the court to allow the phrase. Still, I'll predict that they'll allow the phrase to remain.
But, I'm thinking that maybe it would be better if the court struck down the phrase. No, not for some pseudo-libertarian rational about religion being separate from government and that references to God by the government only serve to sucker people into supporting the government.
Striking down the phrase would signal the government's extreme hostility toward religion which, if America can still be saved, will spark an awakening in the people. They'll realize how anti-Christian the government has become and they'll be motivated to return God to our culture.
Consider the breast-exposing event at the Super Bowl. That triggered some regeneration of decency standards for the networks. That one breast did more good than all the other efforts to clean up TV. The FCC has reversed itself; it's no longer alright to use the f-word on TV. A major awards show was put in a several second delay and aired without those commercials for erection aids and feminine hygiene products. Howard Stern is worried for his future.
The interesting thing about some bad things is that they do good. The president provides another example. Bush, in spite of being a warmonger, is more conservative than Bill Clinton, yet because of Congress's cooperation with the president, government spending grew more in three years of Bush than eight years of Clinton and the flow over the Mexican border just increased.
Striking down ââ¬Åunder Godââ¬Â might just be the thing we need. That's not to say we should hope for bad things, but only strategically bad things.
